My Review

Keep Her Secret by Mark Edwards
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another captivating read by best-selling psychological thriller author Mark Edwards!
Matthew is in a good place, having rekindled his university romance with his old girlfriend, Helena.
Only, on a trip to Iceland, faced with losing her life, Helena confesses to something which has far-reaching consequences for both their lives.
I can’t say much more about the story because then I would give the twists away, but I can say that I was hooked from the moment I picked this book up! I was reading in the bath, as you do, and before I knew it, the water was cold, and I was nearly at page one hundred! Needless to say, it didn’t take me long at all to finish this book!
I won’t say it was an easy read – which psychological thriller is? But it swallowed you whole, and you just want to keep reading to find out which twist will be revealed next!
There were moments I felt so sorry for Helena, but then doubts crept in and would get swept away again… And I did feel for Matthew, dragged into a situation he would never have been in had he not met Helena again after all these years.
But the ending. Wow.
And I always thought rollercoasters had a firm end in sight…

Chai And A Chat #239 #ChaiAndAChat

Hello again, Peeps! And relax! Yes, it is finally half term for us, and even though it feels as if we have had 101 bank holidays, the term has been so busy I am definitely in need of a break!

Have you got your drink ready?

  • If we were having chai, I’d start by telling you about school. I mentioned last week that we were celebrating Cultural Week as an extension to World Diversity Day on May 21st. We had a blast with the children, talking about their own backgrounds culminating in two days at the end of the week where we all dressed up and had a whole school focus on specific countries. The hall was converted into a departure lounge, and we all set off on our flights to different places. Over those days, our classes visited Aruba, Australia and Barbados, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Andorra! I was dressed up as an Australian on Thursday and a Kenyan woman on Friday. Sorry, no pics, though. I totally forgot to take any as I was so tired! The kids loved it, but it was a hectic end to the term, and we were all ready for our break!
  • If we were having chai, I’d tell you it was Pops’ 77th birthday on Monday. I wish we lived closer so we could celebrate together, but we make the most of what we are given, and we caught up by telephone!
  • If we were having chai, I’d tell you that I continue with my journey to ensure mental health is at the forefront of my mind and that of everyone around us… Lil Princess had another of her appointments, which went well, and a sleepover with her friend, which was good for her mental health. And Hubby Dearest and I had our first date night in so long, I can’t even remember! A meal out, though we were both exhausted!
  • If we were having chai, I’d say I was touched to find a beautiful review of Marriage Unarranged on Instagram, too, this week, which made my day!
  • If we were having chai, I’d tell you that one of the rhododendron bushes began to blossom, too, and that made me so happy!
  • If we were having chai, I’d say that Lil Man had his first A-level exam, and he thinks it went well so far. Fingers crossed!
  • If we were having chai, I’d mention that On Sunday, we celebrated two years in our home with a visit to the temple, then three hours of setting up another piece of garden furniture!
  • If we were having chai, I’d remind you all that the publication day for book two is on Thursday!
  • If we were having chai, I would update you on Sonu Singh. I confess that the week has been so manic that I didn’t even get a chance to take a picture of him this week, so you get a bit of a throwback pic of him staring at my shiny shoes!

This week, we are on Half term. Today is another bank holiday. Lil Princess and I will be going to the hairdresser. On Tuesday we are going to visit my best friend, who I haven’t seen since before the lockdowns! Wednesday, we have a few appointments, and Thursday is PUBLICATION DAY! EEEEEK!

And while you’re here, did you sign up for my mailing list? I am in the middle of writing an exclusive Chickpea Curry Lit story for my subscribers, and there will be news, tips and even recipes! You know you want to join… go on! Click the pic below to sign up!

“This is a delightful male-male sweet romance. Sunny is just adorable and Milan is the perfect guy for him! I raced through this book in one highly enjoyable weekend. “

Bestselling author Jeevani Charika

Blurb

Who knew that an innocent trip to India in the year 2000 would have such an impact on his life?

Sunny had only gone as a chaperone for his sister and her best friend and to attend to a few business matters.

He’d ended up with a deal that would change the shape of his professional future and possibly his personal one, too.

Battling the pressures of marriage by his family isn’t Sunny’s only fight, as he finds his feelings for a certain ‘friend’ may be more than just friendship.

But how can he tell anyone how he truly feels?
Because the road to love isn’t always straight…

Ritu Bhathal is a fresh, new, and much-needed voice for British Asian fiction.

Straight As a Jalebi is Book 2 in the Rishtay Series, following the Gill family in the new millennium.

#SoCS May.27, 2023 – Sink/Sank/Sunk

Linda’s SoCS prompt…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “sink/sank/sunk.” Use one, use two, or use ’em all and get bonus points. Enjoy!

I stood by the sink, and my heart sank as I took in the pile of dishes, where my favourite mug lay at the bottom, sunk under the detritus of teenage life…
