What happened next?
What always happens…
I stood there, contemplating the world… then the clouds rolled over.
I could sense the rain about to fall.
I’d come prepared this time though.
Had my hood up ready to combat the torrent that was sure to follow…
But it didn’t.
So I went home.

#WRITESPIRATION #135 52 WEEKS IN 52 WORDS WEEK 40 – Keep Out! @sacha_black

Saha’s #Writespiration Prompt this week…

Your challenge is to write your story using the weekly theme/prompt and write it in just 52 words…. EXACTLY, no more, no less.

Write about the day you ignored the ‘KEEP OUT’ sign.

The putrid smell emanating from beneath the door compelled me to push it open.
I stepped into a dark room, avoided mould filled vessels and mountains of fabric piled haphazardly to open the curtains…
I wish I hadn’t.
That’ll teach me to ignore signs on the door of my teenage son’s bedroom!

Flash Fiction for Hurricane Relief #Flash4Storms #LemonSharkCharity

It’s not a chore, you know, when you are asked to write prose for charity.

Well, Sarah Brentyn of Lemon Shark has set up a wonderful challenge with a promise to donate money to a very worthy cause… let me hand over to her…

Harvey, Irma, Maria… These hurricanes have hit hard, leaving massive damage in their wakes. Here’s how you can help:

1. Write a piece of flash fiction in 50 words or less with the theme: Help
(This can be any sort of assistance, support, encouragement, or a story of someone or something that needs help. You do not need to use the prompt word. Be creative! It can be 50 words, 15 words…even a six-word story. Anything goes provided it is prose up to 50 words. It doesn’t have to be sunshine and rainbows but keep it PG and friendly.)
2. Add a new post on your blog with your flash fiction and the hashtag #Flash4Storms in the title
3. Link to this post
4. Leave a comment here with a link to your post so I know you’ve participated
5. Help spread the word on social media with the hashtags:

#Flash4Storms #LemonSharkCharity

I will donate $1 to hurricane relief for every flash that is posted (up to $50).
And to top it all, Diana WP of Myths Of The Mirror has decided to match the donation!
So, here goes! 50 words filled with hope!

After six days of relentless searching, they had all but given up hope.

All that was left of the school was a pile of rubble.

Irma had done her job good and proper.

The rescue team were ready to and admit defeat, when that feint cry was heard… “Help!”

Signs – #writephoto

Sue’s #WritePhoto prompt:

The warning signs had been clear enough, yet still, Randolph plodded on.
It wasn’t fair that his twin Rudolph had been picked from obscurity, just because of that stonking great red conk of his!
Honestly, you’d think he was something special!
Their mother had been quick to save all the Christmas cards that were sent showing that rotund fellow in red, sat on his sleigh, with the group of reindeer pulling him along, and Rudolph leading the way.
She all but forgot about poor Randolph.
He decided to leave home. Not knowing where to go, he just followed his heart.
In the distance, a large, yet sombre castle came into view.
It’s a shame he couldn’t read.
Or that he was too lost in his own sorry thoughts to see the large board displaying three deer skulls, complete with horns.

Igor the Targeter surveyed his grounds.
It had been a while since he’d had to train his eye and protect his precious lawns from those pesky animals. They were constantly nibbling at his grass and finely trimmed hedges.
That sign had been a perfect deterrent.
Or so he thought…

WRITESPIRATION #134 52 WEEKS IN 52 WORDS WEEK 39 – A Night In The Museum

Sacha’s prompt for #Writespiration this week:

Your challenge is to write your story using the weekly theme/prompt and write it in just 52 words…. EXACTLY, no more, no less.

Write about the night you accidentally spent in a museum.

Oh, I could have really run with this one! It was hard to contain it within 52 words, but I did it!

I have a terrible habit of nodding off.
This time, the lost property room at the local museum.
The pile of forgotten coats looked so inviting to my tired body…
I woke to find myself in darkness.
Convinced I could hear the old armour moving, I stayed put until the caretaker arrived!
