The first was one that I remember singing at school in music lessons! Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by B J Thomas.
Anyone who knows Bollywood, knows that rain features heavily in some of the more seductive songs. Rain and wet sarees… Yes, I know! Tip Tip Barsa Paani from Mohra. (The pair from this film actually got married too, in real life!)
With the spirit of #musicalmarch, we thought we’d go a bit Dharmic today, a bit spiritual.
“You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.” Old Zen Saying
In my Sikh religion, Simran, or meditation, and singing of the Lord’s name is important. There are so many ways to do Simran, but one person who I really admire, is Veer Manpreet Singh. He travels the country and world to sing his version of a Simran, Tuhi Tuhi, and it is so relaxing. I have his app on my phone so I can listen to it and sing along whenever I want that peace.
Now my parents are both over this age, but my mum loved The Beatles! When I’m Sixty Four.
And my Eastern song is a beautiful song that my Pops still sings to my mum. It is so sweet! It is about ageless love! Meri Zohra Jabeen from the film Waqt
I thought I would devote today to friendship! Two songs ab0ut those people who, despite having no physical connection to you, are so important in our lives!
The first has to be You Got a Friend In Me from Toystory. Hey, I just love Disney films!
The Eastern tune today is a total classic Bollywood song from the awesome film Sholay! Yeh Dosti. It is a song that, despite being around 40 years old, is still played by groups of Asian friends, especially at weddings and when having a drunken session! All about a never ending friendship!
I can’t let this month go by without mentioning sone of my favourite songs while growing up! This is sort of my tribute to Wham! and George Michael (RIP). I loved the Wham! songs! So here is Wake Me Up Before You Go Go!
And for my Eastern song, a track from a film called Hero, with Jackie Shroff as the main guy. I was a bit of a Jackie fan as a youngster! Nindiya Se Jaagi Bahar… I loved singing this!
