At one with a Malteser… #ThrowbackThursday

I’m back after my teacher training day. It was lovely, a school with no crazy kids! Peace around the corridors and time to sort displays and classrooms out.

In the last half an hour or so, I had a short course on mindfulness. It was interesting, all about clearing your mind, slowing down, and thinking of negative thoughts at buses, or clouds, that pass by, not them being all encompassing.

I chose to do this course because, I kid you not, there was a picture of a Malteser in the handout!

And, to my joy, there was Malteasers present too!! And we got to eat…one…after becoming one with that Malteser…

I had to pick one, hold it, really look at it, think about its appearance (round), smell it (chocolate), listen to it (heck, it’ll only crunch when you let me eat it!), feel it (melting, melting, it needs my mouth!) And taste it…mmmmmmmm!

Oh, it dissolved so beautifully! Melted in the mouth theoretically. In reality, it melted in my hand!

Then we had to meditate for 5 minutes… Now, I do know the benefits, after all, my Pops teaches yoga! But in a room full of people, susceptible to giggling fits that I am, and with an open bag of Malteasers in front of me, do you REALLY think I can concentrate my mind on my breathing??!!

Thursday Thought – #Meditate

“Sometimes the best thing you can do is not think, not wonder, not imagine, not obsess, just breathe and have faith that everything will work out for the best.” –

My mum told me last night to have a chamomile tea to relax myself.

I know it’s meant to help, but what won’t help is the need for me to rush to the toilet in the middle of the night, ruining the full night’s sleep that I hoped to get! Especially after the last few nights!

And so I did what my Pops always tells me to do.

Sit back, empty your mind and breathe.

Inhale through the mouth, and exhale completely, slowly. If you wish to make it a meditation, you can chant something that calms you. Breathe in this way for 5-10 minutes and empty your mind of everything else. Concentrate on the breath entering and leaving your body. The vibrations of the chant will sooth your brain.

Many people automatically use the word “Om”.

We say, “Waheguru”.

And so before bed, that is what I did.

I have woken up fresh, ready to handle the dreaded observation today. I know what my capabilities are. I can only hope my team are on side and able to support me and the children in the way I really would like them to. It’s all in the hands of ‘Them’ now!

Who knows when I get my feedback. but I’l be glad when this afternoon is over, I can tell you that!!!

Thanks for all the good wishes though, your words have given me more confidence!

With the spirit of #musicalmarch, we thought we’d go a bit Dharmic today, a bit spiritual.

“You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.” Old Zen Saying

In my Sikh religion, Simran, or meditation, and singing of the Lord’s name is important. There are so many ways to do Simran, but one person who I really admire, is Veer Manpreet Singh. He travels the country and world to sing his version of a Simran, Tuhi Tuhi, and it is so relaxing. I have his app on my phone so I can listen to it and sing along whenever I want that peace.

Please, enjoy.
