#SoCS Sept. 2/17 – Birth/Berth

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “birth/berth.” Use one, use ’em both, but whatever you do, have fun!

So… I am a little too excited as I type this… but I shall chat about a few things…

Berth – When I went to Russia on a school trip… (Yes really Russia! It was amazing!) We took an overnight train from St Petersburg to Moscow. And I had to sleep on the train. I got the lower berth, or bunk, and it was the best nights sleep I have EVER had! Gently rocked to sleep…amazing!

Birth –  now this is why I’m a little excited, and why I’m a little tipsy… (Yes I wrote this post last night, scheduled for the morning as I don’t think I’ll be up early!) But today, after a particularly successful first day of my freebie promotion for my book Poetic RITUALS (You didn’t know? It’s FREE until tomorrow!  Grab your copy while you can on your Kindle by clicking this link! myBook.to/PoeticRITUals), well… Amazon gave birth to a #1 Best Selling Author!!!!

20170901_195713

I am so ecstatic right now… (and a little merry!) I hope to see that happen with my novel… as and when it gets finished too!

Thank you all of you who downloaded it! I am looking forward to reading the reviews!

Birth (take two) – It’s my Birthday tomorrow! And today my Hubby Dearest is whisking me (and the kids) away to a lovely hotel for a treat! We are off tonight, and back tomorrow, after what will, hopefully, a lovely evening!

Right… I’m off to enjoy my glass of wine now!

Cheers Peeps!

Delve into a book of verse exploring different topics and different genres, all with a RITUal twist.
A collection of poetry drawing on the experiences of the writer, ranging from matters of the heart, love for the family, situations in life and some verses written with a humorous twist.

And so far it has had some lovely reviews…

One from Diana

Bhathal’s Poetic Rituals is a collection of poems that explores life’s rituals, those of a mother, wife, lover, and teacher. There are real gems in here with lovely imagery, humor, passion, and ambivalence. My favorite poems were the lighthearted rhymes about being a mother of young children. A great read to visit and browse throughout the day.

And Chris Graham

Winter, blowing bubblegum for the first time, cats, kids, eyebrows and leg hair are just some of the topics included in this original, poetic and humorous book.
It certainly cheered me up as I read each and every poem.

It’s a freebie remember! Spread the word!!!!

One from Wendy Unsworth

“I enjoy reading funny or clever verse, mostly on the internet, in blog posts etc, when I come across them, but books of poetry are rarely my thing.

I ‘picked up’ an ecopy of Poetic Rituals when it was discounted because it’s something different and an easier read in between fat novels and autobiographies.

It is really great to open a book and be surprised in every good way by the contents. I read through the poems at one sitting, delighted with each one to the next. They reminded me in some ways of Pam Ayres work; witty, funny, poignant, some slightly tongue-in-cheek. What impressed me most was their unfailing observations of family life, relationships and the frustrations of daily life. One is about not being able to get a printer to link to a computer – I could wholly identify with that one!

Read this book, raise a smile and even a little tear. This is a lovely read!”

and Janice Spina

An eclectic mix of poetry showing the talent and diversity of this author. There is a musical quality to her poetry that is pleasing to the ear.

There are haiku and other poems that range from seasons to love and family, something for everyone. The author infuses deep feelings into her work.

I found this book to be an enjoyable journey through the eyes of a talented poet.

My review

This is a delightful book of poetry with a lot of variety in the tone and content of the poems. They are all written from a very human perspective and cover the day-to-day life of a Mother of two, wife and employee with a lovely twist of humour. As all of these things myself, I found the verses to be very relatable. The book is divided into four sections which each deal with different aspects of life, namely, Family RITUals, Life rituals, Rituals of the heart and Rituals to make you smile.

Oh To Be An Author…! #ShamelessPromotion

How big is your TBR pile?

I used to be able to judge how many books I had, by looking at my shelves.

Now, in this digital age, I turned to a Kindle to save space, as I have no room for more books, because of the children’s books, and my teaching resources!

I literally donated 7 huge boxes of books to the British Red Cross last summer when we had a clear out, and converted our study into a bedroom for Lil Man. It meant less space for our stuff, but at least the kids had the privacy they needed!

But it means that I really have no clue what is in my TBR pile, unless I scroll through the contents of my Kindle!

I appear to have around 35 unread books waiting for me!

The great thing about my Kindle is that I can pretty much support my fellow Indie authors straight away by downloading the books of interest to me as they get published.

Though I sometimes forget what I have stored to read for the future.

Just the other day I was looking to see what is next among my pile of virtual books, and I was so excited that I had, among others, books by Sally Cronin, Sue Vincent, Judith Barrow and April Munday. I have books by Robbie Cheadle and Colleen Chesebro to share with Lil Princess too.

And I felt proud that I actually know these talented writers, and can count them as my friends!

Two years ago, authors were haloed beings in my books, excuse the pun. The ones you could hope to emulate, but really had no chance to reach their successes.

But now I realise, two years on, that we are able to become one of ‘them’.

If we want to do it, we can become one of those haloed beings too!

Ok, so we may not reach the financial successes that the likes of J.K. Rowling and Stephen King enjoy, but to be honest, for me, success would be to be sat on the TBR pile of someone I know (and ultimately for the book to be read and reviewed, obviously!)

So, here’s hoping I pull off that writing through August thing, so I am able to say to you all, that “Hey! I have a fiction book out there too!” sooner, rather than later!

And, I know I am on the bookshelves, or Kindles, of some readers out there too… I managed to become a published poet last year!
