Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 163 – Easter Vibes

Easter says you can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there.”

Clarence W. Hall

It’s Easter!

Now, I am not Christian, but as a British born Sikh, living in the UK, I like to embrace all the festivals and significant dates that are celebrated here. After all, it’s all about integrating, isn’t it?

I’ve read the Easter story to my Reception class and talked about Palm Sunday, the Last Supper, Good Friday and Easter Sunday in child-friendly ways. I have let my Nursery class enjoy the tale of the Easter Bunny.

Both sets have had an Easter Egg hunt and polished off their chocolatey treasure.

My kitchen has a selection of eggs hidden, ready for gifting on Sunday.

On Good Friday, my children’s breakfasts consisted of croissants and mini chocolate eggs!

But, I do like to think about the philosophy behind the festivals we celebrate.

Resurrection.

New Beginnings.

A good time to reflect on the fact that Jesus died on a cross for the sins of his people. (This was actually quoted to me by a five-year-old as we were listening to their recall of the Bible story!). I hadn’t put it quite like that in my retelling, but she is from a church-going family, so kudos to her for remembering that from her church school!

But the above quote rang true as well. It doesn’t matter how deep you bury a truth, it will be unearthed soon enough, so best to try and deal with the consequences of a secret straight away, rather than brushing it under the carpet…

Now, let me lighten the mood with a couple of funny Easter quotes Spidey wanted to share too!

My mom used to say that Greek Easter was later because then you get stuff cheaper.”

Amy Sedaris

I lied on my Weight Watchers list. I put down that I had 3 eggs… but they were Cadbury chocolate eggs.”

Caroline Rhea

Wishing those of you that celebrate, a most wonderful Easter, and an abundance of new beginnings. And those of you who don’t celebrate religiously, enjoy the myriad chocolate eggs that are out there!

Stay positive 🙂

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 162 – Spring Forward

“No matter how long the Winter, Spring is sure to follow.” – Anon

I didn’t want it, but I needed the reminder, especially for the clock changing. Thanks, Spidey!

And so, Spring is here in every form. The equinox has happened, so it is officially here, the clocks sprang forward, somewhat sneakily at 2am, and the weather outside has been pleasant enough to encourage the first daffodils to bloom!

The frogs were busy in my colleague’s garden, and frogspawn was laid too, so she brought it in for the Nursery class to watch.

We’ve had no luck with the frogspawn in recent years. They hatch then some swim for a bit and then we have nothing. Even more disappointing when some of the other classes even had froglets last year too from the same spawn, but different tank!

This year though, we have loads of teeny tadpoles already, swimming around and munching on their jelly at the moment. I’m expecting much larger swimmers when we get in on Monday morning!

And so Spring is upon us. (Until the forecast cold snap due to visit us again at EASTER!)

The darkness of Winter is being cast off, and we welcome the lighter evenings and steadily warmer days of Spring, where it is almost easier to be more positive.

Just like situations in life where that tunnel of darkness can swallow you up, it is important to know that there is an end, there will be light at the end.

Try and keep your hopes up if you are going through a ‘Winter’ season in life. Your ‘Spring’ will come soon enough too.

Who or what is your beacon, during times of darkness in life? What gets you through to the other side?

Stay positive 🙂

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 161

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” -Anne Lamott

Thanks for the reminder Spidey.

Think I needed that after my week.

What with stressful waits for observations then feedback, an unwell child causing sleepless nights, and an injured child, shutting his hand in a car door, I was ready to drop on Friday evening.

I came home and did my usual routine of cleaning the house from top to bottom, then sat down with my laptop to browse blog posts, as I do. Within half an hour, I kid you not, I had a streaming nose and the beginnings of a full-blown cold.

Seriously?

Life, after all you threw at me this week, you could at least have given me this weekend to just relax and unwind, not get ill!

But then, maybe it’s just life’s way of making us slow down.

I did rush out and get the grocery shopping done first thing on Saturday in the mini Beast From The East (yes, a little more snow over here, but not much for us!) then came home and just vegged out.

I spent time doing what I love – reading and sharing and interacting with my fellow bloggers, fed the family (obviously!) then spent the whole afternoon and early evening in bed!

Hubby Dearest popped out and got a totally unhealthy KFC for dinner, but at least it meant I didn’t have to cook!

I snoozed, and read, and topped up on cold meds.

And I fully intend for today to be a day similar to that.

Yes, I know what some of you will be saying: “Ritu – switch off from the blog for a few days. Just get yourself better!” But, my blog is not a stress for me at all. It is something I love, and what helps me relax. I have gone past the time where I was constantly checking stats, worrying about who was reading and liking. It’s more about the conversations that come from the posts I write.  I love to read posts, and I absolutely love to ramble on in my posts! The next best thing to talking the hind legs off a donkey – I’m very good at that too!

For me ‘switching’ off from other duties, such as rushing around to make sure other family members are catered for, chilling in my PJ’s all day, being able to be worry-free about my own kids, that is ‘me’ time!

If I can squeeze in a manicure or a pedicure that is better, but as I am feeling unwell, just being home, cosy, with my fave people around me, and my blogily with me for company too, that is the best!

How would you ‘switch-off’ from life to get your batteries recharged?

Stay positive 🙂

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 160 #MothersDay

“A mother is a woman who shows you the light when you just see the dark.” –  Grimaldos Robin

Never a truer word spoken.  I know my mother is one who helps me see the light and positivity in all situations.

She is my rock, a beacon of light in the darkness, keeps me grounded, and loves me for me.

I am so happy that she is here with me to celebrate Mothers Day today, so I am off to wish her a Happy Mother’s Day.

But remember, today may be a day to celebrate, but appreciate your mothers everyday. You wouldn’t be here without them! ❤

Go spoil your mums! And if you are Mum, enjoy you day!

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 159 #Snowmaggedon2018

“Kindness is like snow. It beautifies everything it covers.” – Khalil Gibran

Well, we had to think about snow this week, didn’t we Spidey!

Having been stuck inside pretty much all week, not only because I was signed off with my arm injury, but because we got a whole lotta snow, courtesy of The Beast from the East at the beginning of the week, and Storm Emma at the tail end, snow just had to figure.

And this was just a perfect quote.

When you look outside and see the blanket of white covering the world, even the ugliest of scenes is transformed into a thing of beauty.

Equally, a drop of kindness into a puddle of unhappiness can make such a difference to a person.

Your simple smile or hello could change the thoughts of a person in the depths of loneliness. An offer to help out with someone’s shopping bags, or popping over to a neighbour in bad weather, to make sure they are okay, it all casts a brighter light on the other person’s day.

Random Acts of Kindness – something that spread like wildfire a couple of years back.

Why should it be simply a hashtag, a phase?

We should try to drop these acts of kindness every day.

They should really be second nature, not a deeply thought out act.

Kindness is in us all.

It is not something that has to cost money. Just a little time and energy. And believe me, you’ll feel richer yourself for helping someone.

Go on – make someone happy today, what kind act will you perform? In fact, not just today, everyday!

Stay positive 🙂
