TJ’s Household Haiku – Full & Only

TJ is back with another set of great prompts, photographic and wordy!Viacar of Wakefield with illustrations by Hugh Thomson

and

Full & Only

Firstly TJ, I totally agree with you! The art of letter writing has waned, and it is such a shame! I try to encourage my children to write a letter or two once in a while, to their grandparents and uncle in Finland!

A couple of weeks ago, an envelope arrived for Lil Princess and she was ecstatic to receive a letter from her best friend who has moved to a different area of the country! She quickly wrote a reply back and is now awaiting a reply!

So the first Haiku is for her!

Full of the joy that
Only a letter can bring
A smile on her lips

The second inspired by the beautiful photo and letter opener.

Just a little slit
In a bulging envelope
True friendship is found

Fine Art Friday – Music and Sketches

The other day, I was going through my bedside cabinet drawers. They are fit to bursting, and something had fallen down the back, preventing the drawers from closing fully.

Instead of dislodging the offending item, closing the drawer, and getting back to whatever I was meant to be doing, I started a reminisce.

The bottom drawer is full of musical song-books.

Ones I helped to create.

During my teenage years, we had lots of family weddings, and my cousins and I decided we wanted to learn some of the traditional songs and dances so, going forward, we could continue the traditions. Of course, though I can speak and understand Punjabi, I cannot read or write it.

So came the fun job of trying to write it in Roman English, Phonic Punjabi!

And my ‘book’ was very popular within the family. For my own wedding, I typed and printed several copies which ended up in the far-flung corners of the world! This resulted in a few reproduced fancy copies being made, and adapted over the years!

The top left one was my original one, then my cousins printed them ‘offically’ for use at their weddings

And from my little idea there were off-shoots! My mum collects them whenever she goes to a wedding and sees them, then gives them to me!

Some of the ‘spin-offs’!

And also, as I dug deeper into the drawer, I found a whole heap of printed out Bollywood song lyrics! Cue a good hour of me sitting on the floor, surrounded by books, and paper, crooning to myself, hoping I wasn’t waking the children! (Don’t ask me to sing, because you know me, I probably would break out into song with not much encouragement!)

Then I came across a sketchbook from my GCSE years. I didn’t take Art as a subject, but I always enjoyed doodling and came across these pictures.

Palm tree paradise? Yes, please!

No, it’s not a self-portrait! I was never allowed a fringe growing up, I rebelled and had one cut in my late 30’s!

I think this may have been inspired by the Ball we had in my final year at school, which I didn’t go to!

So there you have it! Ritu’s Artwork, and Musical Endeavours!!!!

Have a great Friday Night Peeps!

Twilight – #writephoto

Sue’s #WritePhoto prompt this week.

Twilight.
It was that time again.
The mists rolled over the hills.
The sun had lowered below the horizon, darkness had yet to envelop the world.
That time… when humans feared the hills.
That time… when loved ones went missing.
That time… when the creatures felt safe to roam.
That time… when they feasted.
Before their eyes failed them in the inky black of the night, the creatures scoured the hills for any living thing, be it a four-legged mammal, or two.
They didn’t discern between either.
The sound of a heartbeat alerted them to their next meal.
They sensed the blood pulsing through veins, calling out to be drained.
Sated, they crawled back to their hiding places, to recharge… ready for the next Twilight…

Writespiration #120 52 Weeks in 52 Words Week 24

Sacha’s #writespiration prompt today.

The blood curdling phone call in the middle of the night.

The telephone shrilled in the middle of the night.
Glancing at the clock, Tina harrumphed.
Bloody phone call at 3.24am.
Dragging herself out of bed, she cursed at not putting her mobile on the bedside table.
“Hello…”
“Mrs Peters? This is DI Jones. It’s about your son, David.”
The world went black.

As a mother, and true family person, I don’t know what could be more blood curdling for me, than to get a phone call in the middle of the night about one of my loved ones.

In fact I dread the phone ringing late at night or early morning, because I know, 90% of the time,  it will be something bad… side effects of a big family.

Lots of joy, but many more opportunities for sad or devastating news too…

Sue’s #WritePhoto prompt this week.

Birds fly overhead
Unrest is shown in the air
Echoing my life

Sorry if you were hoping for a sequel to the last prompt entry… I’m afraid I wasn’t feeling it, as a follow-up! Maybe next week!
