Three Ingredient Puffy Paint

You know me, I’m a teacher, and an Early Years teacher at that.

This means a lot of hands-on sensory activities to develop and stimulate young minds, and lots of chances for me to experiment with great arts and crafts ideas I find on the interweb!

This week, we tried out Puffy Paint!

Puffy Paint

Literally, three ingredients!

  • PVA/white/school glue
  • White shaving foam
  • Food colouring

And some containers and old lolly sticks to stir.

  1. All you need to do is pour some glue in a pot and add approximately the equal amount of shaving foam to it. I used around 2 tablespoons of glue then squirted the shaving foam in.
  2. Use the lolly stick to fold these two ingredients together, as if folding sugar into egg whites. You don’t want to lose the air in the foam.
  3. Once at the required consistency, add a few drops of food colouring, and mix again.

And there you have it!

I made up 8 pots, including a white one, and the kids loved it!

You can use a brush to blob the paint on paper or card, then once completed, leave to dry, overnight preferably, to get a wonderfully textured finish that is soft and spongy to touch!

The children really enjoyed the different feel of the paint, and they were intrigued by my sample painting, with these foam-like areas that were soft to touch.

They are so excited to be able to take their works of art home after the weekend!

#SoCS Mar 17/18 – Green

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “picture.” Write about, or theme your post on the first picture you see when you sit down to start writing. You don’t need to describe the picture necessarily–you can even put yourself in it if you’re not already there. Enjoy!

Well, the first picture I saw, after reading the prompt and getting ready to write was the header from Linda’s blog!

And I’ve written about snow enough recently! Though we obviously haven’t had enough… did you know here in the UK there is apparently another cold snap coming, after all this wonderful springlike weather that we’ve been experiencing… and, so the weather peeps are saying, there may be snow on the EASTER WEEKEND!

What?!

No!

It’s bad enough that we’re losing an hour’s sleep with the clocks springing forward this weekend, but to be thinking we are going to experience more cold next week???? I can’t deal with it!

I am the first to want snow usually… during the winter months, though. And I don’t think it’s too much to ask that there be a white Christmas, but once the season has officially changed, and Spring is meant to have sprung??? No thank you!

We’ve even got frogspawn in our nursery, and the tadpoles have hatched..I’d hate if we had to release them to the cold pond, instead of a warm spring temperature pond!

Right, I am off now to nurse my still aching back and shoulders… flossing (the dance) needs a health warning… you should really warm up before attempting it for any length of time!

March 22 – Flash Fiction  – Follow Your Dreams

Charli’s prompt this week:

March 22, 2018, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story using the theme “follow your dreams.” Bonus points for throwing a badge into the tale. Go where the prompt leads.

I did it mum. I took your advice.
“Follow your dreams, love,” you’d say to me. “Don’t let anyone stop you. I’d hate for your life to mirror mine.”
Born at a time where a good Indian wife and mother was nothing but that, my mum had dreams of being a doctor. Instead she was married off early, and, well, no one was going to encourage their daughter in law to study more, or, God forbid, work.
As I stand here, with my degree in my hand, my only wish is that you were here to see it too…

#WritePhoto – Carved

Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt this week:

Our future is carved
By the steps of our past
Each breath that we take
One closer to our last
Think deep about
All the things that you do
For the marks that you leave
Will reflect upon you
What gift will you give?
What joy will you spread?
What path will you leave
For the future to tread?

Flash Fiction Must Run In The Family… #YoungWriters

I’ve mentioned the Lil Princess a few times with regards to creativity, be it singing, drawing or writing.

This time I have to report that Lil Man is now nearly up there with the published authors of our time!

His school sent some entries to a company here, who encourages and promotes young writers, and Lil Man’s flash fiction piece was one that was chosen! The compilation is called Stranger Sagas…

Here is his piece!

The Magic Pen
It started at my birthday and Grandpa came. I like Grandpa
coming on my birthday, he gives me presents which were his
when he was a boy. This year, Grandpa gave me a pen.
Grandpa handed me the pen.
He said, “Click this pen when you are in great trouble.”
By the way, my name is Billy. I’m twelve years old. Later, I
went to school. I had the pen that Grandpa gave me, just in
case I needed it. I clicked it. Click! Time froze. What do I do?

The Young Writers Association is a company which targets schools and encourages entries into various competitions for children of all ages.

They select ‘winners’ to go into books, and yes, it is a ploy to get proud parent’s to buy the books, but if it gets kids writing, I am all for it!

(Yes I have already ordered one copy – not going mad and ordering one for every member of the family!!!)

What did you think of his flash?
