Rain & Shiver

I went with a 3/5/3 Haiku first…

Leaves shiver
With the weight of rain
Drops falling

Then a tanka

The rain falls in sheets
I’m wet and shivering
uncontrollably
Natures playing games again
Typical British summer

And the traditional 5/7/5 English haiku

A raindrop trickles
Sending shivers down my spine
Like your feathered touch

Poetic RITUals by [Bhathal, Ritu]

What Amazon says

Delve into a book of verse exploring different topics and different genres, all with a RITUal twist.

A collection of poetry drawing on the experiences of the writer, ranging from matters of the heart, love for the family, situations in life and some verses written with a humorous twist.

My review

This is a delightful book of poetry with a lot of variety in the tone and content of the poems. They are all written from a very human perspective and cover the day-to-day life of a Mother of two, wife and employee with a lovely twist of humour. As all of these things myself, I found the verses to be very relatable. The book is divided into four sections which each deal with different aspects of life, namely, Family RITUals, Life rituals, Rituals of the heart and Rituals to make you smile.

Who could not enjoy…

Cracked #writephoto #Haibun

Sue’s #WritePhoto prompt this week

I decided to attempt a Haibun today, goodness knows if I managed, but here goes!

The earth cracks, begging for even just a drop of moisture, looking as if it is signalling the end, yet the plant grows strong, sucking up the lifeblood it needs to survive.

Life is a strange thing
Taking from one yet giving
Birth to another

The small cracked shell lies  there, a symbol of hope. Hope that another day will dawn, another living thing will grow stronger, continuing the circle of life.

WRITESPIRATION #129 52 WEEKS IN 52 WORDS WEEK 34

Sacha’s back with her #Writespiraton prompt.

This week your challenge is to write a 52-word story including these words:

Badger, amulet and coward

Your challenge is to write your story using the weekly theme/prompt and write it in just 52 words…. EXACTLY, no more, no less.

Here goes!

A knock on the door.
Ernest peeked gingerly out of the window.
Oh, great!
Another mob had come to badger him, wanting his help. That was the third this week.
How long could he hide for?
He cursed himself for losing his precious amulet.
Without it, he was nothing but a coward.

Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge # 47 – #Haiku #Tanka: Shadow & Light

Colleen’s poetry challenge this week is using the words

Shadow & Light

080717_1817_ColleensWee9.png

Today I  am incorporating a Tanka and a Haiku into a single poemy thing!

Never seeing light
Forever in the shadows
Feasting or darkness
Negativity can hurt
If you starve it of all light

***

Keep your shadows small
Surrounding yourself with light
Make life positive
