Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 364 – Work and Play

“There is virtue in work and there is virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither.”

Alan Cohen

You’ve totally centred on my theme of R and R, this week, Spidey, so thank you!

As you will know, from the last couple of posts, I have been working pretty hard, but I have also had to rest, as well.

We’ve had a lot going on at school and there appears to be rather a huge amount happening over the next five weeks of term. So much squashed into this time. We have visits from various individuals, as well as the hovering threat of Ofsted, who are due to pay a visit at any time, too! Coupled with lesson observations and staff having days off, it’s a juggle.

No time to be ill, as most teachers will tell you.

But then, I think back to something several people say. You will always replaceable at work, but never replaceable to your family.

On Friday, I went into work, with an inkling that the day wasn’t going to be good for me. Sitting in my classroom, I was getting ready for the day, and my colleague could see, immediately that I wasn’t right.

So, instead of battling through, because that is what I usually do, I just got things set up, and spoke to my head, who agreed I needed to go home.

I do feel lucky to have a head who is fully family orientated, and understands work/life balance, even though I find myself messaging her to switch off, regularly, too. She knows that if someone is not well, they won’t be able to give the best of themselves to the class and school, or to their families.

I spent the best part of the day in bed on Friday and carried it forward on Saturday, too. No writing, those days, because I was unable to, but, finally, I recognise when I have to switch off.

I’m still achy and a bit tired, but at least I’ve given my body time to recuperate and will continue that, today, too.

So, are you good at recognising when you need to have a break?

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 363 – More Birthdays!

“Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think.”

A. A. Milne

An inspirational quote for my dear daughter, today, on her special day.

She’s 14, years old, today, and I can’t quite believe it.

An independent soul, who is quiet in front of most people, but has a smile and laugh that lights up our lives when she lets it loose.

We wish you so much joy, and happiness, our precious Lil Princess. May you prosper forever.

I can’t not post that we have another special birthday, today. My daughter came crying and screaming into this word on the birthday of my father-in-law, who was extremely happy with the gift we couldn’t possibly top, now/

But, it is his extra special 70th today, so a very happy birthday to Dad, too!

So, will you join me in wishing them a Happy birthday?

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 362 – Spring Is Nearly Here!

“The first blooms of Spring always make my heart sing.”

S Brown

Spring is in the air, Spidey!

Yes, I know it is not officially Spring, yet, Peeps, but there are definitely signs that it is close!

I am leaving the house and it is lighter, in the mornings, and we are arriving home at dusk rather than in darkness.

There is blossom getting ready to pop out on the Cherry Blossom tree in my playground at school, and I am looking forward to the changes that will be showing themselves in our garden, too!

Hubby Dearest and I went out for our first ever walk, alone, sans kids, today, at the new house. It’s only been nine months since we moved in! The woods are muddy, but the little green shoots were visible around us, and it was refreshing!

With Spring, I always find that hope appears to blossom, too. I feel more positive, a little more energetic, too!

Here’s to a beautiful Spring, Peeps! (Even though I am still scraping frost off my car some mornings!

So, What do you love about Spring?

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 361 – Strong

img_00411

“You never know how strong you are, until being strong is your only choice.”

Bob Marley

I think I really need to appreciate my strength this week, Spidey. so, thank you for this quote, today.

This above quote resonates so much.

I have always been of the belief that whatever higher power there is, up there, putting us through our paces, never sends us more than he knows we can handle. Though, those times can seem like we are breaking, or broken, even. If we are able to centre ourselves and look internally, we can find the strength to deal with whatever has been thrown at us.

That is where strength comes in. It’s not about lifting weights, or that physical strength, rather the emotional strength that gets us through life.

I haven’t been feeling 100% at all the last few weeks but, as you know, we teachers soldier on. There have been more and more cases of Covid in the school, and this week at least two members of my team succumbed, too.

I have been testing daily, sometimes twice, to keep track of my own status, but the headaches from the stress, the restless nights, coupled with the work we still need to, so our children are educated properly, eamt that I had to draw from an inner strength that I wasn’t sure I had.

But, it is obviously there, as here I still am, standing strong, ish.

We made it to the end of the week, and I was able to manage staffing shortages, as well as the rest of what my job entails, and life stuff, too.

And, most important of all, I’m still smiling.

So, are you able to find your inner strength?

This post, by no means is meant to belittle those who struggle to cope. I know the world is made of different people with different ways. And we are not always able to find a path that leads to a positive conclusion. My thoughts are always with those that struggle, too.

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 360 – Catch Up

img_00411

“Set impossible challenges. Then catch up with them.”

Richard Branson

I know I missed a few personal deadlines, Spidey, no need to rub it in!

Sometimes life itself feels like an impossible challenge, but we have to rise to whatever is thrown at us, don’t we?

The last week, I feel like I have been playing catch up with myself the whole week, if I’m honest.

What with feeling unwell, headaches lingering, a sore throat, and worrying that Covid had caught up with me, along with absences at work, and playing staff chess, moving people around to ensure the place was sufficiently staffed, along with trying to keep up with my housework chores plan, and try and get to my laptop daily… it’s been quite a week!

There were definitely some days when I thought my plans were impossible, however, I managed to keep on top of pretty much all of them.

The only one I am dubious of completing is that I promised myself that I would add 2k words to the MS this weekend. So far, I am at 0 because I needed a day of being extremely self-centred, as I wasn’t feeling well on Saturday. But, if I am doing as I hope, I will try and write in the morning when the family is still asleep, and I am awake, and again in the afternoon when Lil Man goes for cricket training.

Fingers crossed I manage to hit a goal that, right now, feels a bit impossible!

So, do you feel like you’re constantly playing catch up?
