Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 329 – Music

“Behind every favourite song, there is an untold story.”

Unknown

Many thanks, Spidey, for finding me an appropriate music-based quote for today’s post!

It’s true, isn’t int? There is definitely a story behind favourite songs, or else, why would they be so special?

Okay, I know there are some that you just like the lyrics of, but if you dig deeper, there will be some reason, some connection, that keeps you coming back to it.

Music was on my mind, recently, as I set up my Alexa Dots around the house, and compiled playlists that I could stream through the system. I’m quite backwards like that, where music is concerned. I still prefer my cd player in the car, to the streaming, even though I have Apple music, etc, but now, I guess it’s time to harness the power, and the fun you have, asking Alexa to play certain songs, even though she gets songs of other languages a bit mixed up, and ragga songs, which I do love!

Anywho, on Saturday night, as I cooked the dinner, I asked her to play all sorts of songs, and there were mini stories behiind why each of them stuck with me.

I started with (don’t laugh) the Birdie Song. A true party favourite when I was a young child! I attempted to get Lil Princess to join me to do the moves, but after laughing at me (result, better than the moods we get!) she ran off to her room!

Then it was Copacabana, which reminded me of a dance competition in school, where a couple of friends choreographed a dance to it.

These songs morphed into more and more memories from the past, with tunes, or choooons, as we used to say, from my uni years, leading me to begin to create a playlist for myself with memory songs!

It lightened a rather heavy mood here, as a certain someone came home from a match that was lost, and was particularly negative, and after a bit of a kitchen boogie, all felt so much better. The music followed me up to the utility area, where I ironed and continued to dance to more memorable songs from years filled with wonderful memories.

What fun!

So… tell me, are you following the Euro Matches this year

Chai And A Chat #139 #ChaiAndAChat

I was lucky to have had two weeks off, for half term, considering the housemove, but it went so fast!

And now, before I get an early night, ready for school, let me have a catch up. Drinks to hand? Mine is an ice cold glass of water, as it is boiling here!

  • If we were having chai I’d sigh, and say, we are so happy to be in our new home, but boy, are there still lots of silly things going on! The Vendor never got back in touch, so we will have to take other routes to resolve some issues, but we will get there. The garden is looking lovely. In fact, I am sitting outside as I type this! And I feel at peace, totally, right now.
  • If we were having chai I’d tell you that Sunday nght I went to bed shattered, but really happy, as I got my writing/reading space organised. Now, it wasn’t where I had planned it to be, because there is an l-shaped room in the eaves that Hubby Dearest was going to use as his office space, but due to internet issues, it wasn’t working out, so he ended up shifting to the spare room, downstairs, then into the small bedroom, which was actually going to be my space, once I was all ready to set it up. Anywho, things happened, or didn’t, and he is now going to stay in the downstairs room, as it is more light and airy, considering he will be in there all day. But I have now been gived the upstairs area as mine… and I have been very busy, ordering shelving, storage, etc, for the room. Hopefully next week, I can share photos! But I was building flatpack furniture in the heat we are experiencing right now, and that wasn’t fun! My new chair should be arriving tomorrow, and I can start to slowly shift books here, ffrom my in-law’s house, where they have been in storage the last few months! Boy, have I missed those!
  • If we were having chai I’d mention that we’ve been practicing the new commute, since Lil Princess didn’t have 2 weeks off, like me, so that was handy, but I have ended up driving double what I would usually do, as I was coming back home every morning, then doing stuff, and then driving back, picking her up, then going to cricket matches, or practice! Cricket season is very time-consuming, I tell you! Actually, on Tuesday, we went to a match, and I had been so busy all day, I hadn’t even eaten lunch! So, I ended up with hot chips as we watched. I can’t complain!
  • If we were having chai I’d say how on Tuesday we ended up staying the night at my in-laws, as I was taking my father -in-law to have cataract surgery, and we needed to be there at some unGodly hour, so if I was travelling from home, I’d have had to be up and out the house by 6am! And to drag Lil PRincess too, at that time, would have been unfair. Anyway, we stayed, and I took him. I was there for around five hours, as the procedure was taking place, so I took time to relax, a little, and reaad, but ended up chatting to two other women who were waiting for relatives to have theirt procedures done too!
  • If we were having chai I’d mention that I managed to watch Friends; The Reunion, too and I was so glad I did. Watachinng Friends when it originally came out, during my years in Kingston, living with a Friends freak, I became a huge fan, too, and even now, when the reruns are on, on the Comedy channel, I could watchc the epsiodes over and over. It was actually pretty emotional by the end!
  • If we were having chai I’d have to tell you that ‘that time of year’ has come. Report writing time! So, even though we aren’t officially at school, I needed to make a start, which I did. Still loads to do, but, as I said it’s a start!
  • If we were having chai I’d like to end, today, on some of the flowers that are in bloom, right now, including my first roses! So pretty!

This week, we are back to school, thata grindstone well and truly on… But this week, we are celebrataing the Olympics for the whole week, so it is going to be off time table learning, with lots of opportunities to teach the children, school-wide, about the games, and diversity, too! Home wise, there will be cricket (when is there not?) and more getting things sorted out, slowly… Oh, and more reports, obviously!

Chai And A Chat #138 #ChaiAndAChat

A whole week has gone by since we moved into the house. A full week of half term has slipped by. Thank goodness I still have one more week!

Right, so, did you get your drink? I’ll update you on more house shenanigans!

  • If we were having chai I’d tell you it was a jam-packed week. Even though it was half term, once you move into a new house, there is no such thing as relaxing, for the first few weeks, at least!
  • If we were having chai I’d tell you that I have been driving to all the local supermarkets, to work out the best one for my weekly shop. Asda, a straight drive, perfect. Sainsbury’s could be straight, but the journey involves a stretch through a country lane where no one can pass you, so you could end up having to reverse, to let another vehicle pass! There is another route, so it is still an option. Hubby Dearest discovered a local Co-op, so for little bits, that will do. I did try the local Tesco, but, erm, local? Well, the SatNav took me on a 45 minute journey there, then on the way back, it took half an hour – definitely an only in emergency place, but it was a lovely store!
  • If we were having chai I’d mention that Amazon has become our best friend. We have ordered so many bits and bobs, to get going, from a nest of tables for the living room, to cleaning products in bulk, and a whole host of other things. The delivery driver is going to know our address off by heart!
  • If we were having chai I’d say that the gardener came and cut the lawn, at least, and the garden is looking pretty good, already. We have a random fence to remove, and some weeding to do, but then it is as good as it is going to get, for now! There are beautiful Rhododendron bushes too, most with purple flowers, but one with fuschia coloured blooms, too!
  • If we were having chai I’d have to let you know that there are some amazing walks around here, too. We haven’t been on many, yet, but I look forward to getting to know more of them!
  • If we were having chai I’d leave you with the image of a very cosy Sonu Singh, who is more than happy, and trying his hardest to find all the hiding spots, or sleeping all day!

This week, I am still on half term break, but there won’t be lots of relaxation. See, Lil Princess is back at school, so I’ll be practicing the commute every morning, to get her to school, then there are appointments with furniture people, as well as Lil Man and his cricket matches. Oh, and I need to start writing my class reports!

Can you believe that May is nearly done? When I said time was flying, I wasn’t kidding!

Right, drinks at the ready? Let’s catch up!

  • If we were having chai I’d let you know that school has been hectic, as usual. There are so many things going on, right now, from working out how we are assessing the children, to ensuring we have covered enough of the learning that we wish our children to be exposed to, to spending that quality time with them, too. Monday was Pyjamarama, and the children loved coming into school in their pyjamas. We devoted more time than usual, looking at books, and reading stories together – my favourite thing!
Here’s me in my posh PJs!
  • If we were having chai I’d not be able to let the post go by without showing you the monster pear that came in the fruit for the children! Talk about wonky fruit!
  • If we were having chai I’d tell you that Lil Man completed his first week of assessments. He’s enjoying coming home early, but it is a battle to get him to revise… typical boys! One week to go for him, then he can relax.
  • If we were having chai I’d say that I am still pretty shattered. We’ve been carrying on with the major clearouts, to help whenever we move out of this place. There is a lot less ‘stuff’ around, and I have got very good at getting rid of things, but, Hubby Dearest has been outed as the biggest hoarder there is!
  • If we were having chai I’d have to get you to raise your cups to Pops, who turned 75 on Saturday! If only I was in a position to go and see him. We can’t stay overnight yet, so it;s a long journey for just one day, especially given that Lil Man is in the middle of his assessments, but hopefully, soon, we can be together!

This week, I am in and out of school, for some specific reasaons (to be revealed soon enough!) but, suffice to say, there is some big stuff happening here! Lil Man finishes his GCSE exams that aren’t meant to be exams on Friday, so he will be free, too. OMG!

As will I. We break up for our half term. on Friday, and though it feels like a short minute since we had Easter, the last five weeks have almost killed me! It’s been a hard slog. There is so much going on in school, and at home. I can’t wait for our break!

This still stands, too!

Now, I will say this here, so hold me accountable, folks.

On top of school, the next two weeks will be hectic. We have Lil Man with his GCSE year, coming to an end, so even though they don’t have exams, there are still assessments happening, starting today, so his teachers can submit their grades for qualifications… And there’s the house. I can’t say much, but, things are moving, and this is why I need to step back, a little from some of the weekly prompts, so I can get the clearout done! Evenings and weekends will be being used to sort out the chaff from the wheat, so to speak… And, to add to that, Lil Man’s Cricket, as well as countless courses and forums we have been asked to be a part of, to keep up to date with school changes.

So, if you see me on here, too much, call me out!

Chai And A Chat #131 #ChaiAndAChat

The holidays are officially over. I am gutted!

I feel like I haven’t done anything productive – I had plans, you know! But what I have done, is switch off, and not think, too much, about anything, other than my little family.

So, do you have your drink handy?

  • If we were having chai I’d tell you that despite not being in school, it hasn’t been far from my mind. We are trialling the new curriculum, in our school, which is a strange new thing for us, especially within this pandemic time, as well as me being the Phase Leader, so needing to know much more about the mechanics of the curriculum, and data (Oh, I hate data!) I found a great group n Facebook with a whole host of schools who are in the trial, using the new framework, and there were so many great discussions, as well as ideas. I downloaded loads of documents and sent them to my work email, so I can read them when I am at work. Refused to do it at home. Also, some of my dear colleagues did go into school, to make a start on a sensory garden that we are setting up for the children. I can’t wait to get into school to see what they have been up to!!
  • If we were having chai I’d say that considering I did nothing else, I did read plenty. And I am glad I did because I might need to channel more of my time to clearing out the summer house and attic, ahead of actually moving out of this place, soon enough. We have said skip, as I mentioned last week, but I didn’t make a dent in filling it, because I was just feeling Meh! Actually, that is a bit of a fib. I did do some clearing. I went through the freezer, getting rid of the out of date bits, and seeing what I actually have in here, then doing the same with all my food cupboards. I have found so much that was out of date, as well as items I know I won’t use, but in date, so I will be doing some donating to the foodbanks!
  • If we were having chai I’d have to say that I did manage to get my hair cut and coloured, now we are easing out of lockdown! And eyebrows threaded. I feel like a new woman!
  • If we were having chai I’d tell you that cricket took over a lot of my week, too, with Lil Man’s countless training sessions, and three of them were forty minutes away, so I was sat in the care for much longer than usual. It resulted in a backache… but, on the plus side, I discovered a beautiful park there, with a lake and I even treated myself to lovely ice cream!
  • If we were having chai I’d admit that I also ventured out to Bluewater, for. the first time in 7 months. It wasn’t as busy as I thought, and because I was alone, because Lil Princess was meeting friends, I was able to peruse the bookshops and stationery stores at my leisure! It was bliss!
  • If we were having chai I’d need to update you on that kitty, too… His new trick? Sitting in the tissue box, because there is obviously nowhere better to sit!

This week, it’s back to school, and some semblance of normality for us.

Now, I will say this here, so hold me accountable, folks.

On top of school, the next six weeks will be hectic.
