Chai And A Chat #113 #ChaiAndAChat #CoronaDiaries Week 37

Well, hello there, Peeps! It’s Monday, again, and I have two weeks to get through at school, before I can have a proper break (Break? What is one of those?)

Right, have you got your drink?

  • If we were having chai I’d erm and aaah for a short while, because my brain is quite frazzled right now, before remembering what I wanted to say! So, School – The kids were back this week, and it was a relief in many ways, because they have been stuck at home andeven though they are distance learning, it is not ideal, especially with Lil Man, and his GCSEs looming. Don’t get me started on how the government here want to handle those examinations, this year. There are some children in this country who will have missed out in over six months of proper face to face education, and they are still expected to take exams! Last year, the exams were, rightfully, cancelled, but those children had completed their curriculums, and were in the revision stages when Lockdown 1.0 started. This year, many childnre will have missed chunks of learning time, and huge sections of the subject knowledge they need. Yet, they are expected to sit exams. Scotland, and Wales have already said there will be no exams, but assessments, and teacher driven grades, but England? no, let’s just add more pressure onto the pupils who are already stressed enough, and the staff in schools… Oh, well, let’s see what happens…
  • If we were having chai I’d revert back to my own school. We had our first over the phone parents evenings, this week, and they ran over three evenings, instead of two that we usually do, face to face. I actually enjoyed them, as I was on my own, in my classroom, and the fact that I had next calls waiting reaally helped ot keep things to a minimum, essential exchange of information. I also welcomed a new member of staff into our team, which was lovely, then one was off sick, with awful tonsillitis. She still won’t be back this week, it’s so severe! Means we are juggling everything, but thank goodness it’s the lead up to Christmas, so we can be a bit more chilled out about things… ish! I must share with you about the book we were reading, this week, Stickman by Julia Donaldson. I have a child with a speech impediment, and he would refer to sticks as d*cks…, sorry, but childish humour here, it kept us all in the classroom amused, through a very tough week, and another? the little girl with English as a second language, writing that she thought it was a ‘fanny story’… we giggled!
  • If we were having chai I’d mention that the viewing we were meant to have on the Monday fell through but we had quite a successful one on Saturday, and there is still a couple to come. We have also signed up to go and view four other properties as our possible next homes, too, so fingers crossed!
  • If we were having chai I’d have to remind you that Marriage Unarranged is on Kindle offer until Thursday, if you want to treat yourself!
  • If we were having chai I’d end by telling you that Sunday was me sat on the computer ALL DAY! I was a part of an online event called Bookapalooza, and interacting with those who commented on my post took the whole day! In fact it is why this post is shorter than usual, with les photos!

This week, I will be enjoying the lead up to Christmas in school sans the fun of a nativity, though, this year… hoping for a smooth week, even though we are down a member of staff for possibly three days… but we can do it! And hope the viewings happen, too! Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 300 – Tercentenary!

img_00411

Thank you for sticking with Spidey and me for the last 300 (ish) weeks!

Ritu Bhathal

Wow!

Spidey. You and me for 300 weekly posts. That is kind of mind blowing, isn’t it?

I thought, this week, we would just go back to the origins of Spidey’s Serene Sundays, especially for all you newer followers!

Way back when… 300 ish weeks ago, I was relatively new to blogging. I had fallen into this blogisphere, to be honest, and I had no clue about what to write. I used to post randomly. There was an awful lot of stream of consciousness posts, though I wasn’t aware that was their name. And I’d post random stuff. Silly pics, anecdotes, my thoughts.

No rhyme, nor reason.

One Sunday morning, I went to visit the bathroom, as you do, and I was greeted with the sight of Spidey, as above, sitting on the bathroom window sill, in deep meditation.

My son, Lil Man, was obsessed with all things Spidey, at that age. It was a fixation that lasted for a good few years. It meant that pretty much every place in our house had something Spidey-themed. From plates and cups in the kitchen, to Spiderman toothbrushes and flannels in the bathroom, duvet covers in the bedroom, to a wardrobe filled with Spidey tops, tracksuits and even undies! (These were all my son’s, one anyone else’s I hasten to add.

Even my in-law’s house wasn’t missed. There were toys, and even a dress up outfit there, too.

In fact, Spidey was even there in his learning, with Spidey Learn to Write and Learn to Count books, and even special reading books!

So, that morning, I didn’t bat an eyelid at Spidey sitting there, as I performed my morning ablutions.

Then, as I went about my day, an idea hatched in my mind. Spidey was looking so serene, and full of wisdom, why not incorporate him into a regular post?

And so, Spidey’s Serene Sundays was born.

300 (ish) posts, (ish, because I may have missed a week, here or there, and misnumbered in the past – come on. I am human, after all!) and here we still are. It has been wonderful, discussing inspirational quotes with Spidey, and filtering our thoughts here, every week, and I have some of you diehard readers, who don’t miss a single Spidey post, ever!

Here’s to another 300, eh!

So… tell me, how long have you been a reader of Spidey’s?

Have a peaceful Sunday Peeps.  And enjoy your week!

#SoCS Dec. 5/2020 – List

Linda’s #SoCS Prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “list.” Make or talk about a list. Enjoy!

Lists.

Time to talk lists.

I’m a Virgo, I love lists.

Lists help me get through all sorts of situations from work-related issues and to-do jobs, and home ones too, like shopping lists, or packing lists for when we go away.

But my biggest, constant list is my TBR (To Be Read) list.

I have less unread physical books, so my ones to read are in a bag, usually by my bedside, but currently at my inlaws house, as we pack bits and bobs up ready for whenever that dream house comes along. That’s my TBR pile.

My list, and I have a proper list written out, (or typed, actually) of my e-books currently on my Kindle, is LOOOOONG!

It’s got the ARCS from NetGalley that I have to read, and all the other books I have purchased over the last few years, that haven’t been read yet. In the hundreds, it is…

Then there is the wishlist on my Amazon account. All the books I like the look of, but won’t buy until the rest of the list calms down…

Did I mention that I love a good list?

How many books on your TBR pile or list?

December 3: Flash Fiction Challenge – Raksha Bandhan

Charli’s Carrot Ranch 99-word Fiction Challenge:

December 3, 2020, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story that includes family traditions. It can be related to any holiday or situation. How does the tradition impact the story or change the character? Go where the prompt leads!

Raksha Bandhan

Nalini scowled at Rakesh.

Stupid baby.

Her nine-year-old heart hadn’t quite come to terms with this mewling infant thrust upon her, when her mother’s expanding belly suddenly deflated.

He was taking up everyone’s time and attention.

Usually, the whole family doted upon her, but recently, it was all “The baby this, the baby that.”

“Come on Nalini, time to tie a rakhi on Rakesh. Lucky girl. You finally have a brother to bless.”

Sacred thread tied, she went to turn away, when her mother called her back. “Don’t forget your gift.”

A gift? He wasn’t so bad, after all.
