Day 5 – #musicalmarch🎵

Day 5 of #musicalmarch🎵!

Thinking of my parents when I select these songs.

Now my parents are both over this age, but my mum loved The Beatles! When I’m Sixty Four.

And my Eastern song is a beautiful song that my Pops still sings to my mum. It is so sweet! It is about ageless love! Meri Zohra Jabeen from the film Waqt

#SoCS Mar. 4/17 – Project

Linda’s #SoCS prompt for this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “project.” Use it as a verb, a noun, or both. Have fun!

I think after the incident that happened to me last week give me a fair reason to be scared. A decent reason to feel like I shouldn’t do certain stuff again. A valid point made that cars can be dangerous.

But do I allow an isolated incident to colour my future?

After all, I am lucky enough to be here after the accident. Fortunate to be walking around and to still have a vehicle at my disposal.

Do I feel scared? Nervous? Panicky?

Yes.

Will I let these feelings dictate how I live my life?

No.

Yes, I do have fears. Flash backs occur at the slightest trigger, like when the wind was blowing. The thought of the car veering off the road, possibly because of a gust of wind panicked me so much? Driving by the site of the accident was surreal. Getting behind the wheel could have been really tough.

But no. I am not going to allow my fears to dictate my life. And I am not going to project those fears onto my children.

I made a choice, after the collision with a motorway central reservation barrier, that I would get back behind the wheel. I chose to try and get over the scene that runs through my mind several times a day, of my car spinning round and round into the oncoming traffic, so that the children don’t ever feel worried when in the car with me.

I need them to understand that accidents do happen, even to the most careful drivers. As someone said to me “That’s why they’re called ‘accidents’. You don’t plan them. If they were planned they would be called ‘on purposes’.”

I want them to be the kind of people who are able to get back on the horse after falling off, without fear.

I hope that they don’t think of incidents like this as a failure of sorts, but instead an opportunity to do better next time. We are learning all the time, and this accident was a learning curve for me too.

I guess when you think of it like this, it is all about the fixed vs. growth mindset thinking. I could shut down, convinced I would be in many more accidents, so that’s it. No cars or driving for me. Or I treat it like a lesson, and get back into that driving seat, take it easy, and keep going with life as I was before, thinking positively.

You see the way I react to incidents that occur in my life, project a kind of standard of reaction onto those around me. If I want the kids to be strong, resilient people, I need to be that too.

But equally, I need to makes sure I don’t overdo things too quickly too. I may be Supermum in their eyes but I am no Superwoman really. I need recovery time, and they need to see that, so they understand there are also times in life when it;s okay to take a step back, recuperate, then get on with living.

As long as I stay positive, I think  I’ll project the right emotions, that will allow them to be able to handle situations like this in a positive manner too.

And there you have it… My Stream of Consciousness this morning, pure and unadulterated!

Ritu’s Healthy Eating – Week 30 #icandothis

It’s been a roller coaster of a week, emotionally, as you all know, what with funerals, and life-threatening accidents, then prolonged time off at home, with the threat of grazing too much… But here’s my food…There was convenience, a little naughtiness, and pancakes!

And how did I do? Well, I’m not gonna recommend the Stop The Motorway Diet, but …

I lost 2lbs!

So that is 25.5lb off with Slimming World, 30.5lb off in total, and I smashed my second Slimming World target!

As I said, I don’t recommend shock and emotion for weight loss in the long run… but it worked!

Now all of you have a wonderful week Peeps! Luck and love, and lots of lovely healthy food! ❤

Leibster Award from Em Linthorpe!

Haven’t done one of these for a while!

I am part of a fantastic group of bloggers on Facebook, called Big Up Your Blogs! Since interacting with them, I have developed even more blogpalships!

One of these pals is Em Linthorpe, and she nominated us for the Leibster Award, collectively! Now I have done this one several times over, but I feel I must do this, as the group has been so supportive to each other, and I am sat here on my sick leave, so have the time too!

So to the rules…

1) Say hi to the person sweet enough to want to know more about you – and display your award with pride;
2) Answer the eleven questions the person gives you;
3) Give eleven random facts about yourself;
4) Nominate some other people that you think are deserving of this award;
5) Let them know you have nominated them;
6) Give them eleven questions to answer.

So, Hi Em!!!! Thank you so much for thinking of me, and our whole group!

11 questions for me to answer:

Listen up nominees! These are the questions I would like you to answer.

1.  What phone apps could you not live without?

My WP app, all the usual social media suspects, my banking app, and the various photo editing ones I use regularly!

2. Do you still keep in touch with any of your school friends?

Via Facebook, we link up, and a couple of years ago we had a reunion where a few of us got together the year we all turned 40! It was so good to catch up with each other!

3. What is your opinion of garlic?

It is a great flavour, as long as you don’t use too much! And it scares away Vampires… what’s not to like! Come one, you know you love garlic bread…!

4. Do you ever do DIY at home?

Simple stuff, like lightbulbs, and tightening screws… I’m not too bad with flatpack furniture! First proper time painting rooms last summer, and I replaced a light socket too! Hey, that’s not bad going for a Girlie Girl!

5. What are your most treasured books on your bookshelf?

I have so many books, but I think my Set of Noddy books are extremely special as they were given to me when I was recovering from an operation at four years old, and they are complete with Gollywogs and all!

6. What was the first concert/gig you attended?

It would have been an Indian musician with my Parents, Gurdas Maan, amazing singer! The first, and only western concert I went to was to see Blackstreet at Wembley!

7. If there was one thing you could change about your house, what would it be?

New flooring!

8. Have you ever been camping?

I have… two interesting days and nights, for my Duke Of Edinburgh award. A sheep walked into our tent… nuff said!

9. What was your worst kitchen disaster?

I love being in the kitchen, so I’ve had my fair share of disasters… but a recent one was when I made cakes for a school bake sale and they all sunk on me! Never has that happened before!!!

10. What words do you regret saying to someone else?

I’m not sure, but I guess what comes to mind is the few times I have generally blown off at the kids, because I am tired and have a short fuse, then I want to hug them and say sorry… They are just kids, not my sounding board.

11. Give us a brief overview of your gaming history.

Gaming and me… Well, let’s be honest, I am not a gamer really! But as a child, we had a Commadore 64 and we used to play Wheelin’ Wally. Then the Sega MegaDrive arrived and Sonic and Golden Axe were favourites! At Univeristy, Hubby Dearest and pals had the PS2 and Tekken was a game played in large groups. I loved it one day when my totally random pressing of buttons meant I beat every guy in the room! No tactics, just playing like a girl!

Now, I prefer things like the Just Dance games on the Wii!

11 random facts about myself

Apologies if you’ve read any of these before… In the past I did so many of these Award Tag posts that I don’t think I have anything majorly original to say!

  1. I have 29 first cousins!
  2. I can wiggle one eyebrow!
  3. I have a stationary fetish, seriously!
  4. The varied backgrounds of my family make me a British, Kenyan, Indian! But genetically, I am 100% Indian!
  5. I passed my driving test on the fourth go… (no comments about why my accident happened here!)
  6. I hate, really can’t stand, sports!
  7. I went swimming with turtles and dolphins in the Carribbean, what an experience!
  8. I only have one ovary.
  9. My wedding dress took 5 people embroidering for 16 hours a day, for 11 days, to make. Wow!
  10. I had Laser Eye surgery nearly ten years ago!
  11. It’s not often that you’ll see me without a smile. 😀

11 questions for my nominees: Excuse the laziness, but I am using Em’s questions!

2. Do you still keep in touch with any of your school friends?

Big Love! ❤

Day 3 – #musicalmarch🎵

Day 3 of #musicalmarch🎵!

I can’t let this month go by without mentioning sone of my favourite songs while growing up! This is sort of my tribute to Wham! and George Michael (RIP). I loved the Wham! songs! So here is Wake Me Up Before You Go Go!

And for my Eastern song, a track from a film called Hero, with Jackie Shroff as the main guy. I was a bit of a Jackie fan as a youngster! Nindiya Se Jaagi Bahar… I loved singing this!
