Picture Battle

My dear Blog Sis, Erika, challenged me to this Picture Battle.

It’s pretty simple.

Find a picture that is funny. A photo that makes you laugh!

It’s tough, there are many photos out there that are funny!

But I went with this one…

watermelon-baby

That face… he looks just soooo happy to be modelling this interesting costume!

And I challenge any of you to post a funny photo. Anything that raises a smile on this earth is a good thing!!

Review Wednesday – Poetic Rituals by Ritu Bhathal

An absolutely lovely review by Wendy of my book, Poetic RITUals!

img_1865I enjoy reading funny or clever verse, mostly on the internet, in blog posts etc, when I come across them,  but books of poetry are rarely my thing.

I ‘picked up’ an ecopy of Poetic Rituals when it was discounted because it’s something different and an easier read in between fat novels and autobiographies.

It is really great to open a book and be surprised in every good way by the contents. I read through the poems at one sitting, delighted with each one to the next. They reminded me in some ways of Pam Ayres work; witty, funny, poignant, some slightly tongue-in-cheek. What impressed me most was their unfailing observations of family life, relationships and the frustrations of daily life. One is about not being able to get a printer to link to a computer – I could wholly identify with that one!

Read this book, raise a smile…

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 89 – Diwali Special

“It’s better to light one candle, than to curse the darkness.” – Unknown

Spidey and I thought it would be good to dedicate today to Diwali, or Bandi Chhor Divas, the Festival of Lights, as us Sikhs, and Hindus out there celebrate annually

If you are unaware of the festival, please read about it here. I posted last year about why we celebrate!

The quote Spidey found was ideal, in my eyes.

It is full of positivity.

We light candles, or divas, today, to celebrate the coming out of the darkness of our of our Gurus.

But that candle is metaphoric. To me, it symbolises one positive thought or action that we could make, to release us from the negativity of the world. One thought in the right direction that could make what seems to be a situation of no hope, into a situation of possibilities.

To me, it symbolises one positive thought or action that we could make, to release us from the negativity of the world. One thought in the right direction that could make what seems to be a situation of no hope, into a situation of possibilities.

Today, I will spend Diwali with my family, enjoying our time together. We will go to the temple and literally light a candle, and in turn, ignite a flame of hope that positivity reigns in this world.

So now Peeps, I am off to celebrate, light candles, eat lots, and have fun!

If you are celebrating, a very Happy Diwali to you!

If you aren’t, my wishes of happiness and prosperity, and an abundance of positive light, are still winging their way out to you!

Enjoy your day Peeps!

#SoCS Oct. 29/16 – In/Out

Linda’s  SoCS prompt this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “in/out.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you’d like. Enjoy!

You put your right arm in
Your right arm out
In out in out Shake it all about!
Shake it all about!
Do the Hokey Cokey
And you turn around
That’s what it’s all about!
Whoa the Hokey Cokey!
Whoa the Hokey Cokey!
Whoa the Hokey Cokey!
Knees bent
Arm stretched
Rah rah rah!

The first thing that came to mind once I had read the prompt.

Closely followed by in… out…in…out… the naughty thoughts!

Stop!

Then it was the way money seems to find a way in to my account, only to disappear out rather quickly too!

Followed by kids with fingers in their noses, then when they realise they are being watched, that same finger is quickly pulled out!

Ok, my stream of consciousness is definitely getting warped here!

I must stop!

Thank you and have a good day Peeps!

Creature #writephoto

Sue’s photo prompt this week.

cave-creature

Oh, this was it! This was going to be the big one, she just knew it!

Rosie buried her hands deep into her pockets and stamped her feet a couple of times on the ground. Jeez it was cold! As she exhaled, her breath was captured in the air, like a cloud. Remember the days when you would pretend you were smoking, blowing out plumes of smoke?

She trained her eyes on the cave. Months, they had been trailing it, this creature, that had captured the fascination, at first, of the locals, then slowly it became a nationwide interest.

The Black Ghost. No one knew what it was, but the descriptions varied from witness to witness. A large dog, a panther, a cross between a wolf and a lion, speculation was rife! Luckily there had been no ‘victims’ as such, but petty thefts had been reported, you know, like food out of pets bowls.

Sightings were always around here, at dusk, with a darting creature spotted, but recently, it seemed that a more accurate location had been pinpointed to this cave.

Her camera was set. James had just popped to the garage a short drive away to pick up some hot drinks and snack supplies.

“Hurry up Jimbo…” Rosie muttered under her breath. She wasn’t scared, not really, but the moors could be an eerie place around this time of night.

Then she saw it.

Quick as a flash she got the camera focused and the shutter clicked away.

There it stood, looking back at her. A creature that was pure black, and almost impossible to see in the darkness. The photos she took only really registered the eyes. Two bright spheres, in the inky darkness.

And it looked like it was coming towards her!

Oh man, where was James????

But as it came closer, it wasn’t getting bigger, it appeared to get smaller, and Rosie’s expression changed from one of abject terror to a gooey smile.

This was no monster! It was a cat!

 A beautiful kitty, coal black with the most stunning emerald green eyes that she had ever seen!

It started winding its body around her legs, like her own at Fluffy would do and she instinctively reached down to stroke it.

~~~
A split second, that was all it took. James stared at the cave then at the camera on the floor in disbelief. He had been walking over to Rosie when he saw the creature approach her. Too late to say anything, he hurried over to her, only to witness her reaching down to stroke it, and then  – GONE!
Neither the creature nor Rosie were there.
Picking up the camera, he scrolled back to see if there was anything in the photos.
A series of shots showed a shadowy creature, unclear, but with every frame, it looked different… from a scary looking snarling hound, it seemed to morph into what looked like a domestic cat.
Calling out Rosie’s name held no response.
James picked up the bits of equipment they had set up, and hurried back to the car.
He was still no wiser as to what the creature was, but it was clear now, this thing was dangerous…
