Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 90

“It’s not whether you get knocked down. It’s whether you get up.” – Vince Lombardi

Life has a way of throwing some pretty tough punches in your direction. Sometimes those hits can really wind you.

How you deal with those hits, now that is a matter only you can decide upon.

You could curl up into a little ball, feel sorry for yourself, licking your wounds, and make a decision that you can’t get up again, losing the battle.

Or you could take stock of what happened, and plan a strategy where you get up, and fight back. Show the world you’re stronger than that.

I’ve said this before but I do firmly believe that though it may not feel it at the time, He only throws the punches he knows we can deal with because He knows of our inner strength. It’s up to us to find the inner strength to get past whatever barrier is keeping us down.

Seriously, look back on your life I am sure you can pinpoint tough times, downward spirals, where you thought that nothing would ever get better.

Now take a look at yourself now.

You are still here.

You are still standing.

You got through it.

See, He knew you could do it, now keep that faith in yourself alive too!

Have a wonderful Sunday Peeps, and Spidey and I will be back next week!

Ritu’s Healthy Living – Week 13 #icandothis

Thirteen weeks ago, I embarked on this mission to improve my lifestyle, my eating habits, in order to lose some weight, and generally make myself feel healthier. My plan was to hopefully lose around 2stone. Realistically, 1.5 stone would do.wp-1477781949515.png

And I lost some… then decided I needed another boost so I joined Slimming World too. I was so happy to say that I hit my Slimming World target last week.

I was worried. A few days at my parents and then the big foodfest that is Diwali, last week, meant I was sure I would have my weight creeping up rather than down this week.

20161030_172935

Naughty, deep fried food… I had some on more than one day! And rich, creamy rice pudding too!

And it did. I defy anyone who says that they only ever step on the scales once a week! I for one get up, and take all my clothes off to step on my scales every morning! It wasn’t a pleasant sight this week. Usually, I maintain my weight for a couple of days, then the numbers start to decrease. This week, though, the numbers actually crept up….. I put on 2.5lbs and on Tuesday, I was determined, I needed to do something!

So I really focussed, I used an extra part of the Slimming World Diet plan called Extra Easy where there are a few other foods that you curb for a few days too, like excess carbs, and dairy, but you still eat your healthy extras which give you the fibre and calcium you need.

Here is a selection of my meals this last week…

I’ve been tired this week. Back to school after a blissful week off, and the in-laws are away for a prolonged visit to the Motherland, so I have a lot more running around, with the kids. (They help us out so much with the picking up of the children after school, so I can work late, and also Mum in law feeds them too! She has actually frozen lots of mini pots of curry for the kids, so all I have to do is make fresh chapattis for a few of the nights a wee at least!) But I have managed to hit my step count every day, so at least I am moving around!

And when weigh in day approached yesterday, it was with trepidation, but also there was a little hope… and

I stayed the same as last week! Yay! 10 stone still! So the full loss still stands at 18lb over the last 13 weeks.

Hopefully next week will be easier, though a few sweet treats extra seemed to sneak their way between my lips today… oops!

Until next time Peeps!

#SoCS Nov. 5/16 – Novel

Saturday brings the Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt from Linda.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: β€œnovel.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Well, as a writer, the first thing that comes to mind is that novel that you always wanted to write, or the WIP you have that is consuming every minute of your day and night.

Then you think, no, let’s not be so obvious, and use the word novel in a different way, and start thinking of a way to express what a ‘novel’ idea you have come up with…

But it’s not that easy!

I decided I would just write about my baby, my WIP, my novel.

Like many of us, I knew from an early age that I loved to write. I would always be writing stories, diaries, anything. There was a permanent ink splodge from my fountain pen on the ‘writers hump’ on my right-hand middle finger. (Do you have one of those? Β An affliction from the time when we didn’t tap away on keyboards, but actually used pens and pencils! I always did love a good fountain pen…. but I digress!)

Then, around 16 years ago, an idea lodged in my head. I was planning for my own wedding at the time, and was back home with my parents, with a new fangled computer at my disposal.

A little seed of a story planted itself in my head. A story about a young British Asian girl from Birmingham, who was planning her special day too. (Yes, I know it sounds like it’s going to be autobiographical, but that was where the similarities ended!) This young woman was going to be experiencing some real problems, and in coming through them, she was going to become stronger herself.

Cue a cheating fiance, a pair of overprotective brothers, and a headstrong best friend…

I was on a roll (well, I thought, anyway!) I wrote a few thousand words, then my own life kinda got in the way. Then newly married life meant that it was impossible for me to write. and I had nothing to type on at the time either!

A few years into marriage, the bug bit me again, and Hubby Dearest bought me my first very own laptop! I was excited! I excitedly uploaded the original version of my little baby and began to add words in earnest. I tried to write, 1000 a day was my target. And I got to around 15,000, before the trauma we went through of trying for a family.

Any urge to write went out of the window, as we battled with one bit of hard news after another. then a miracle happened, and I fell pregnant.

Well, those mommas out there can vouch for the fact that there isn’t much time for yourself, let alone writing, so my word baby got forgotten…again. Add 2 miscarriages and the arrival of another bubba and I was a gonner!

Until around two years ago when I was tempted into this blog writing malarkey.

I finally found the courage to publicise some of what I had written, and the feedback was really good! But it seems to be a time issue again. Β I never have the time to just concentrate on developing my story!

But I would like to get back on that writing pony. I need to!

Those who have read what I have produced so far have been so encouraging, and some out there (mention no names eh, Sasha Black!πŸ˜‰) even tried to impose deadlines on me, to get me back on it, but I still can’t quite do it.

One day, though, that novel will get written. It may end up reading like a vintage story, set in the 90’s, read way in the 21st century, but it will be done!

So, maybe to help kickstart my oomph to carry on writing it, I am leaving you with a link to where the main part of my WIP is, on my blog. I would love to hear any feedback from you. Is it worth me continuing? Would you change anything? Do you actually want to know what happens next?

I have coined the phrase ‘chick-pea curry lit’ to describe my genre. It’s romance, humour, with a big ole dose of masala!

It’s Raining Reviews

This morning I woke and received such a pleasant surprise!

img_1865

Annette, who is a most inspirational person, a fantastic Haiku-ist (is that even a word?!), a promoter of positive thinking, who even has her own radio show, emailed me to give me the heads up on a review for my book, Poetic RITUals.

It was her review, and it means a LOT! Such sweet, positive words, and another 5 stars!

screenshot-31

And the lovely words written by Wendy on a blog post were also up there too!

screenshot-33

It now means I have 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews on Amazon.com and 6  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews on Amazon.co.uk, and 1  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review on Amazon.de.

That is 11 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews altogether. I am so humbled, I can’t quite explain it!

If you have managed to read my book, I would really appreciate a review on Amazon,  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ or not, it all counts!

But seriously, a HUGE thank you to you all Peeps!

thanks

Sue’s photo prompt this week…

And my take…

β€œNow dat,” Dermot said, indicating to the streak of rainbow, suspended in front of them β€œDat is de work of a master.”

β€œA master what?” Paddy asked β€œA master of stupidity?”

The Local Leprachaun Society had been meeting here at this pub for many years, whenever one of them had created a new rainbow. Every nuance of the phenomenon was discussed, minute details picked apart.

Dermot sighed. β€œHe’ll be here soon enough.”

Sure enough, the door swung open and Seamus sauntered in. He sat down and was promptly thwacked around the head by Paddy.

β€œWhat was dat fer?” he scowled, rubbing the back of his balding pate.

β€œFeast yer eyes on dat beauty, and you’ll see fer yerself!” Paddy pointed to the rainbow.

Seamus trained his eye on the colours, and realisation dawned on him.

β€œDe curve, man! Where’s de curve?” Paddy was in full flow β€œYe know de rainbow needs an arc! It helps us hide de crock of gold from de hunters! Optical illusions, dat’s what we are about, and you go and create de world’s first feckin’ vertical one! Might as well place a flashin’ sign above it, saying β€œNick Me!” ya eejat!”

And another thwack was felt on the back of his head…
