Christmas Crafts!

During the week, I get one session where I plan for the following week.

It is then that I try and look for fresh ideas online, (Pinterest is a Godsend!).

This week I was trying to find different Christmas craft ideas for the children.

Though the ones I found may not be practical for my nursery children, they turned out beautifully!

Maybe you could have a go with your own children!

That Time Of Year Again

It’s October…

The temperatures are still rather erratic here, we get seasonal showers, that feel monsoon-like with the warmth, then the temperature drops all of a sudden, and you feel the arctic breeze, followed by blazing sunshine.

One of the biggest problems is that you really don’t know what to wear. I end up with half my wardrobe in my car, lightweight cardigans and chunky knits, and rain coats, with a thick coat and woolly hat, just in case!

But that still won’t help.

The other big issue is health.

These colds and viruses are going to attack, no matter what.

It always starts with the kids. That Lil Princess is a cold magnet! And when she is unwell, the world knows about it!

So the weekend started with her getting soaked at football training, and a small sniffle becoming a larger one. The cough followed shortly after, then the temperature.

Sunday, she was determined to be well… the dog was still around and she didn’t want to miss out.

Sunday night the coughing started in the night from both junior bedrooms, and Lil Man awoke on Monday with the same cough, and temperature.

But both wanted to go to school. So we dosed them up on Calpol and sent them on their ways.

I popped into the pharmacy on the way home, to stock up on cough and cold remedies, and was sure my mother in law would have tried her Indian remedies on the kids too. and I hoped to get my flu vaccination. It is another important thing for me to get, as I work with little germ machines in nursery!

But the registered pharmacist was not in so the vaccination had to wait…

All stocked up!

I got to my in-laws house to find two children wrapped up in blankets on the sofas, with various poultices around them to get them better, and a teary Lil Princess, and a red-nosed Lil Man.

After drugging the children up, I hoped for a slightly better night’s sleep, but it wasn’t to be. Lil Man woke at 3am with a headache and a temperature so high I could fry an egg on him!

So the meds came out again, and once I settled him in my bed, I went off to book appointments for his parents evening. What else would you do at 3.20am? I was wide awake so thought it would be good to be productive!

Lil Princess stayed home today, even though she’d had a good sleep, and I told my son to do the same, but he hopped out of bed and said he wanted to go to school. Really? Your mum just offered you a sick day at home, and you refused? Strange boy!

I was surprised that I still felt ok. But as the day wore on, I started to feel the sniffles…

After school, and a rather long staff meeting, I got my vaccination done (hence the sore arm). Lil Princess was still coughing but generally better. Lil Man was still not well, with his cough, cold and temperature. I hope he listens to me this time in the morning when I say it’s a good idea to stay at home!

But I am sat here with the sore arm, as mentioned above, and a sore throat… Nooooooo!!!!!!

At least I am prepared with plenty of medicines!

It’s The Little Things…

It has been nearly a year since this classful of kids and I started our journey together, and things have been good at times, and really rough at others.

They still aren’t easy, by any means, but I am pretty proud to think I have nearly managed my first academic year, with a pretty hard bunch of children… A baptism of fire, it has definitely been!

But it truly is the little things… nearly 9 months ago, I had a particular child who was REALLY hard to deal with. He spat, kicked, bit me, and swore (at 3 years of age). I remember writing about him here.

This week, however, for the 3 days he came in, he ran into the classroom and gave me a flower! Ok, they were dandelions and weeds, but still… how sweet!

Here they are, drying!

I seem to have a habit of picking up little friends in my classes!

Then there are other ‘little things’ I’d rather not have to worry about, from school…

No, I don’t have them, thank God, (I got my mother in law to check me like a monkey chimp being nitpicked by its mother!) but a lovely little girl in my class has them, and she is another one who seems to have an affection for me, and she is always cuddling up close to me!

Not quite the gift I would cherish, so I have taken preventative measures!!!!

Teaching is such fun!

SOCS – 12/3/16 – BALLS!

socs-badge-2015

So the SoCS prompt this week is Balls… (Hope you like it Linda!)

I’ve often thought of trying a SoCS post but the time is never right…

This week however, read the prompt and a story came to mind immediately.

Not a fiction story, but just a recount really of a short conversation I had with my fast growing up 10 year old son, Lil Man, yesterday evening.

My children were discussing standing on the wall at break, and lunchtime.  This is a kind of time out that is used in our playgrounds for the children to reflect if they have been a little naughty…

There are three playgrounds, one for the little one, one for the lower juniors and one for the upper juniors.

There is a fantastic playing space and climbing frames for the small children, but no ball games. The other playgrounds have four-square courts, and football pitches.

Lil Princess asked her brother it he had ever been on the wall. Now my some loves a good kick about, and has a tremendous kick on him for one so small.

“Yeah, about five or six times, because the ball goes over the fence all the time.”

She then probed further, “But not in the little playground?”

“No, we didn’t have balls in Year One…” Then he looked at me and said “Erm, that sounded a bit inappropriate!” And grinned!

You know he’s had his PSHE – Sex Ed classes!

Tidbit Tuesday – Coitus Interruptus – shout out to all you parents!

Mums (and dads) out there, you all know what I’m talking about…

Lights finally turned down low, you might have even prepared in advance with a fresh shave, new lingerie… Or more likely, you’ve realised that tonight, you actually have a soupçon of energy left, after a busy day of mum chores, and well, it’s about time you gave your man access to his marital rights… It’s been so long, you’re not actually sure things are still working down there, so time to check it out.

You give your partner the sign, the nudge, to let him know you are ready, willing and able, and hopefully he’s not already fallen asleep, used to the reccurent knock backs!

Ok, so now it’s time to get the party started! You kiss like teens, and get ready for the Main Event. And it’s all systems go!

Oh you forgot how good this feels! There, right there! Yes! That’s it, a little more!

And then it happens. You know what I mean. That little creak, that far too familiar sound of a certain bedroom door opening and closing, and footsteps. You have timed this before, so fast as lightning, you pull apart, clothes restored, and that caring voice comes into play… “Aw sweetie! What’s the matter? Bad dream? Let’s tuck you up again.”

Peace and tranquility restored. You go back to the Main Event, hoping to finish what you started. You know you’re on a time limit so, fast as lightning you get back to getting jiggy, hoping to reach the climax you require, before any more interruptions. Sometimes it happens, and all is well, you are both sated, and a further uninterrupted night follows. Or other other happens… Your midnight visitor comes back… Twofold this time because the other one woke up too!

“Mummy, Daddy, I can’t sleep, I keep on hearing noises… There’s a ghost moaning in the house!” ( note to self, silent sex is a much better idea when kids are in the house!)

Defeatedly you throw open the covers of your bed, resigned to no more action that night…

But can I just say, a much more scary notion now… One child has had The Talk at school, and kinda knows what it’s all about! Can you imagine him/her computing this situation, with a whole load of new information to colour his thoughts! No no no!!!

I shall sign out here on this Tidbit Tuesday, and let you ponder on these thoughts….

But a tip… If you want an uninterrupted night of passion…. Get rid of the kids!  Send the kids to their grandparents for the night! Though saying that, often, when this does happen, I’m asleep before I know it, grateful for the chance of a full night’s uninterrupted sleep!!!! Poor Hubby Dearest!!!!
