Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 147

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” – Charles.R.Swindoll

A timely reminder here Spidey, thank you for that!

This is a statement filled with truth.

Everything is about perspective really, isn’t it?

Things happen, the same things happen, to many people, yet the outcomes of those events vary greatly from individual to individual.

And it is largely because of your reactions to said events.

Everyone is faced with difficult situations at some time or another, and how you react to them colours the path of your life.

It’s sometimes easier to automatically have negative thoughts when something unexpected happens, and then the world picks up on that.

Whereas if you try to see the silver lining, and pick the positives, it can really help to make your life smoother.

And, hard as it may be, it is important to wait before reacting… an automatic reaction, where words are said, or rash decisions are made, cannot be undone, whereas a moment’s thought, to put things into perspective, could be the difference between a tougher existence, or a smooth road, with just a couple of inclines.

I have one piece of advice which I am regularly doling out to my nearly teenage son…

Always think about the reaction before you action.

Basically, think before you speak or act.

The amount of times I have to say it to him, (he’s a tween… of course he doesn’t listen to his mum!) or remind him, when he’s getting frustrated by things, be it homework, or an altercation with his sister!

But if he thought that the reaction to him screwing up his homework because he couldn’t do it, would mean that he would have to do the whole thing again, maybe he’d think twice about being so rash, and ask for help.

Or if he realised that the reaction to him choosing to wind his sister up unnecessarily and repeatedly, would be that his phone is confiscated, maybe he’d refrain from doing so…

And now, I am starting to repeat the same phrase to my dear 9-year-old daughter who thinks she is a teen!

Right, now I am off to hopefully not react to anything, and to have a really lazy Sunday!

Enjoy, Peeps!!!!!

“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.” – Charles Dickens

‘Tis the time to wish goodwill to all, and Spidey and I loved this quote from Dickens.

We may not feel we have much to ‘give’ to the world, but a shoulder to cry on, an ear available to listen, a word of advice, is free to you, and could be a priceless gift to someone out there.

Think upon that as you ponder what you are giving for Christmas this year.

“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.” – Ronald Reagan

What a beautiful thought!

Thank you, Spidey for channelling Mr Reagan today!

There are so many problems in this world and though many of us can offer solutions in conversation, we know that our words alone can’t make the changes.

So what if as your average citizen of the world, we can’t solve world poverty, or stop wars happening in other countries?

We can still do something.

There is always someone on your doorstep who needs help, who would show gratitude for any assistance,  be it a lift for your elderly neighbour, or a meal for a homeless person. You may be able to donate something to a family in need, or even donate your time to volunteer in a shelter or old folks home… See, it doesn’t always have to be financial help…

Rest assured that however small you think your contribution is, it would mean the world to the one receiving it.

Acts of kindness don’t have to be publicised either. It is great that there are these campaigns about Random Acts of Kindness, but why do them just so you get some recognition?

Help someone because you genuinely want to.

Make it a part of your everyday life, so it becomes second nature.

“Real love stories never have endings.” Richard Bach

Following in the vein of this special love filled weekend for my Hubby and I, Spidey found this quote which I absolutely loved!

Isn’t this just so true?

If you have found that love of your life, you don’t want your story written, and just signed off ‘happily ever after’… No! You want to continue growing together, evolving together, and writing more chapters of your life together.

Real love should be a never-ending series of books, not a one off chapter book!

I’m off to continue my 16th Anniversary celebrations!

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: It goes on.” Robert Frost

Thank you for this Spidey.

This an important lesson for us all to learn, and to keep with us at all times.

Life does indeed go on, just grab the bull by the horns and keep riding. That bull’s gotta get tired at some point, so you will get a smooth ride sometimes, along with the rough.

Ups and downs – they haunt us all, but always remember that for every down, there is an up, and if you can hold faith in that idea, you will see the bright lights of life soon enough!
