Thursday Thought

“An eye for an eye makes the world blind.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Waking up to read more and more about the latest atrocities in London yesterday, fills me with a sense of fear.

What kind of world are we bringing our children up into?

And what lessons are we teaching them by retaliating?

Terror attacks around the world cause dread, whether large or small, and there are those who take the matters of ‘revenge’ into their own hands.

Without any facts.

That need to retaliate blinds them, and in the end they are no better than those terrorists.

What we need is peace and understanding in the world.

It’s a wish I know many people have, but even with the volume of us who want it, it never happens…because we aren’t the ones in power.

“A minority cause the anguish.
A minority seeks to exterminate the cause.
A majority wants to soothe the world…” – Ritu 2017

One day, will this dream of a safe future and world for our children actually come true?

#WRITESPIRATION #108 52 WEEKS IN 52 WORDS WEEK 12 – The Switch

Sacha’s #writespiration prompt this week…

The Switch

I didn’t go all kinky like my blog sis Judy with this prompt, but the first thing that came to mind for me was sexuality and transgender issues…

Looking in the mirror he smiled a coy smile.
He smoothed his hands down his body, stopping briefly at the waist, before allowing them to undulate over his hips.
Not long now.
He glanced at the fake flowing locks and tossed his hair back seductively.
Not long at all until the Switch…

Day 22 – #musicalmarch🎵

Day 22 of #musicalmarch🎵

Today I bring you the song of another artist, gone too soon. I do love a good Prince Song! This was such a mellow song, and I wished someone would sing it to me!

The second track for today is a song from the film Dhadkan. This song was sung by the late Qawali singer, Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He was an amazing singer, and I count myself very fortunate to have been able to see him live. This song is about a girl getting married, and how the heartbeat of a family almost leaves them as the girl leaves. This was played at my reception, and my Pops sang it to me as we danced… I was in tears, as you could imagine… Actually listening to it now, my eyes are moist… Check out the translation at 4.43 mins and maybe you’ll understand…

Which tracks bring out emotion in you?

World Poetry Day 2017

A little light hearted poem from my book for World Poetry Day.

Poetic Confusion

Tried to write a sonnet,
Was on it like a car bonnet.
But whatever I wrote
Every scribble and note,
Didn’t rhyme at the end
Drove me round the bend!

Tried a haiku,
What to do?
Five, seven, five
Yet still I strive
To work it out,
I have my doubts…

Ballad, ode, elegy,
Epic, lyrical poetry
Epigram, allegory,
Irony, cacophony.
Terza rima, doggerel
Or an ABC poem.

So many poems, what to write?
Is it wrong? Is it right?
I’ll write like me
That’s best, you see
I’ll rhyme and vent
To my hearts content!

Day 21 of #musicalmarch🎵!

I have to include a little Stevie Wonder, love his music! Isn’t She Lovely.

And the Eastern song for today is one my Pops danced with me to on my engagement…

Yeh Teri Aankhen Jhuki Jhuki from Fareb. About how lucky the man is who will have this woman forever.
