#WritePhoto – Thaw

Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt this week:

I thought I’d continue the adventures of Barbie and Ken.
She stood at the bar window, looking out over the snow dusted landscape, wishing it wasn’t melting so fast.
“Babe, it’s a shame you couldn’t sort the snow out… I really wanted a white Christmas this year!” Barbie turned to her long-suffering boyfriend Ken.
“Did you see on Instagram, how much snow the others had in Scotland? And this…sludge… is what we get.” She pouted like a 3-year-old.
Finally sensing a thaw in her icy treatment of him, after the episode last week, when he’d not been waiting for her at the sports bar, rather, he’d left her waiting whislt dreaming of other women, Ken grasped the chance to get back into her good books.
“I’ll just check the weather app on my phone, Babe… Let’s see what we can do.” Ken wandered over to the bar to get himself a pint, and a Prosecco for the lady, and to figure out what to do.
Seriously? She wanted snow now? In the middle of Essex? That idea of the undemanding Sindy as his girlfriend was seriously appealing…
As if the cosmos had been listening, the door to the bar opened and in walked Sindy and her friends. They piled in, bringing a gust of cold wind with them.
Sindy spotted Ken and came rushing over, kissing him on both cheeks. “Hiya Ken darling! How are you? Been let off your leash then, have you?” She winked at him.
He looked over at where Barbie was standing, no longer looking out of the window, but in his direction, the ice forming in her eyes once more, as she surveyed the scene; her man surrounded by ‘bimbos’ and one with her arms slung over his shoulders.
“Er, ha ha, yeah, funny Sind. Listen got to go, drinks are getting warm. See you round!” Ken grabbed his pint and the bubble filled flute and rushed back to his very own Ice Queen…
Sindy watched him retreat, and noticed the look on Barbie’s face… Hmm. Trouble in paradise?
To be continued…

Brotherhood of the World Blogger Award

Thanks to Rachel, for nominating me for the Brotherhood of The World Blogger Award! I have accepted this award before, many moons ago, so I would like to share her post, and, because I do like answering questions, I shall answer those!

  1. What is your biggest regret? I cant put it out there in public, but put it this way, it impacts on my life EVERY day!
  2. What is something that your younger self would be most proud of about you? That I actually published a book!
  3. What is your favourite fruit and why? Mango, because it is sweet and exotic, and just all over yummy!
  4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be? (Or what instruments can you play?) In the past, I’ve learned how to play the Recorder, Guitar and Piano! I can bash a beat out, amateurishly, on a Dhol drum too! I wish I had more lessons on the Guitar and Piano though!
  5. What setting from a book or movie would you like to live in or experience? Obviously the edible world in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!!!!
  6. Why did you start blogging? Purely by chance! A friend started, and I wanted to comment on her first post. WordPress invited me to start a blog, and I did, not knowing what it was… and the rest, as they say, is history!
  7. What is something you are looking forward to? Seeing my parents this weekend!
  8. If job availability/ money were not factors, what would be your dream occupation? A full-time children’s storyteller and writer!
  9. If you could start any charity what would it be? It would be something to help disadvantaged children!
  10. Name a skill you want to learn and why. I’d love to learn tact. Nuff said!

#WRITESPIRATION #146 52 WEEKS IN 52 WORDS WEEK 51 – Cemetary @sacha_black

Sacha’s #Writespiration prompt this week:

Your challenge is to write your story using the weekly theme/prompt and write it in just 52 words…. EXACTLY, no more, no less.

writespiration-2017

This week  I want you to write about the night you spent in a cemetery

That’s the last time I take a bottle with me when going to visit Gran!
She always liked a tipple, so, I brought her favourite drink to the cemetery, where she was buried.
One bottle of sherry plus only one (alive) person drinking = passed out and locked in for the night!

Conversations with random strangers #ThrowbackThursday

image

Anyone who knows me will willingly confirm the following fact… I can talk for England!

And, though not verbal, once I start a comment rally , even on here, I find it hard to stop!

So it stands to reason, where there’s an opportunity to talk to someone, anyone, I will happily take it!
You can end up having lovely conversations with older people, who are sometimes boggled by the technology and communications nowaday, almost starved of regular ‘normal’ conversation.

The kids hate doing the weekly shop with me, apparently I ALWAYS stop to talk to someone and I take AGES… Hubby Dearest says the same… Hmmm, maybe there’s some truth to it then! 😜

Example 1.
I was shopping, sans kids or hubby, and went to the game section. Its Lil Princess’s birthday next month, so I need new present suggestions.. Too soon after Christmas! But, I digress.
I picked up Just Dance 2015 and went to pay… She loves these games.
An elderly lady was at the till. She looked at the game, then at me. I smiled and for no reason whatsoever explained it was a ‘getting ready for daughter’s birthday’ present. She said “Good choice my dear, at least it’s active!” We then went on to talk about the youngsters nowadays being addicted to console games, and lack of fresh air and exercise. This led to her saying she has no internet, no interest in getting it, and on to how her grand daughter insists on getting a text from them if they wanted to talk to her, not just a simple phone call! Her husband arrived and we parted company, with me getting a pat on the back for keeping my kids active, and for having a chat!
Yes, it does add 5-10 minutes to a trip out but it’s fun! I just can’t help it!

Example 2.
Yup, just today, I was in Primark and buying a couple of jumpers, which I had bought previously, but managed to shrink in the wash! 😳 Again, a lovely older lady was perusing the knitwear and happened upon one of the jumpers I’d also picked up. Eye contact occurred, then a smile, followed by a discussion about the jumpers being great, how I’m cr*p at laundry, and what on earth is up with Primark sizing!

Example 3
No, why would I stop there! The lady at the till was next. And after talking about the now infamous jumpers, we were discussing their practicality in my job, comfort and stuff, and I came away from this conversation with a ‘well done with doing the job you love!’
(And a queue of customers behind me!)

I have come to the conclusion its all about the eye contact…and smile.
So if you ever see me and don’t want to chat, whatever you do, don’t let me see you!!! If I smile, that’s 10 minutes of your life GONE! If, however, you fancy a chat, smile away!!! Just don’t wink… That’s just weird!
