Chai And A Chat #213 #ChaiAndAChat

Happy Monday, Peeps! I don’t quite know where to start, but it’s been a bit of a surreal week, this week.

Got your drink? I may have to get a double strength something or other!

  • If we were having chai, I’d tell you that I was only in school for a couple of days. They went fine…
  • If we were having chai, I’d sigh and say that I was off because one of my children wasn’t well. They needed their mummy with them, and I can only thank God that my head at school is such an amazing person, who knows we need to put family first, and that I have such a brilliant team who pulled together in my absence to keep things going. I tell you what, this week made me really remember that we are not irreplaceable anywhere other than in our families.
  • If we were having chai, I’d reassure you all that they are on the road to recovery now after giving us a scare, but fingers crossed things are better for them going forward. Your prayers that they feel 100 % better soon would be much appreciated. 🙏🏽💛
  • If we were having chai, I’d get a little emotional with this next bit. I needed as much light in my life as possible, and I have been waiting for a certain reader to finish Marriage Unarranged before he reads Book two, as I needed quite a specific sensitivity reader. Now, I can’t say anything about what he thinks of book two yet, but his review of Marriage Unarranged reduced me to happy tears!
  • If we were having chai, I’d remind you that I am a part of this Bookapalooza event on Facebook this weekend, so if you are interested, become a member, and I assure you, you will find loads of amazing new authors and a chance to win a paperback copy of Marriage Unarranged!
  • If we were having chai, I’d also say you should keep your ears and eyes peeled, as there will be a cover reveal for book two next weekend, too!
  • If we were having chai, I’d have to mention Sonu Singh. He’s spent quite a bit of time with me over the last few days, sitting next to me, laying with me in bed, and watching a film with me, too! I think he could sense I was quite stressed out. He’s a good boy, is my Sonu Singh… 😻

This week I have a busy one at school with some staff out, meaning that we need to juggle people about. I also will be keeping an eye on above-said child to make sure they aren’t overdoing things. And I will be waiting for the sensitivity reader feedback… as well as the reactions to the cover reveal, plus the fun of Bookapalooza! And it’s December on Thursday, as well, so I can’t wait to get that tree out and ready to decorate, on Saturday.

And while you’re here, did you sign up for my mailing list? I am in the middle of writing an exclusive Chickpea Curry Lit story for my subscribers, and there will be news, tips and even recipes! You know you want to join… go on! Click the pic below to sign up!

#SoCS Nov. 26, 2022 – Plates

Linda’s SoCS prompt.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “on your/my plate.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

What do you have on your plate?

I don’t mean food. Rather, do you have patterned plates and matching crockery?

I remember that for my mum, Corningware was the thing.

We had that set that I think most Indian families outside of India had at some point, called Spice of Life, but it was just the casserole dishes at that time.

Then mum discovered the whole sets and we were blessed with a beautiful Shadow Iris set. But we rarely ate from it. It was saved for when guests came over!

When I got married, Mum bought me the whole Callaway Ivy set.

And when I mean the whole set, I am talking EVERYTHING!

I have the dinner plates and side plates, cereal bowls, small bowls, large bowls, oval dinner plates, serving dishes, casserole dishes of several sizes, a teapot, teacups/mugs and saucers, milk jug, sugar pot, salt and pepper shakers, as well as matching table mats!

There is probably more, but I can’t remember. I am as bad as my mum, and have these all stored away for special occasions!

The thing is, I always loved the Shadow Iris set.

So a couple of years back, before COVID struck, my mum decided to take the set she had stored safely and decided that the mismatched crockery I was using needed to be replced by something better, and I was gifted a set of Shadow Iris Dinner plates, Side Plates and bowls. Oh, and some table mats that matched too!

She still had more left after giving me a set of 12 of each. (We have a big family. Mum liked to be prepared, so she had 24 of everything!) But 12 would be more than enough plates for me and would also allow for any breakages – inevitable in my household!

So nowadays, I love what is on my plate, under the food – my Shadow Iris pattern!

Sorry I’m Late, But I Just Hit Eight! (Years!) #Blogiversary

So, there I was, minding my own business, when a notification came up…

I’ve officially been blogging for eight years!

And how I fell into this world is a story in itself.

Some of you, my oldest friends, on here, will have heard it already, but for those of you, my newer blogily members, I am happy to recount the way this blog started.

A dear friend of mine wrote a post on Facebook, mentioning that she had started writing to help her mental health. She shared a link and said any of us could read it. Being the supportive friend that I am, I clicked straight onto it and was immersed in her words and thoughts. I wanted to comment to show my support, but it told me I needed to create an account.

And so I did.

Then this thing called WordPress emailed me and said, now you’ve signed up, why not start a blog?

Blog?

So that is what this thing was called.

I’d never heard of blogging. (Old school, aren’t I?)

But I thought, why not?

And But I Smile Anyway was born!

I had no idea what I was meant to write about on this blog thing. I had no niche, no plan, no clue.

But, somehow, that little unknown blog built up its followers, and some of those followers became friends, and you all gradually became my blogily!

Eight years down the line, I have nearly 10K blog followers, it’s won awards, and I was given the encouragement to pursue my writing, meaning I am a published poet and author, too, with a publishing contract!

I branched out onto Instagram and TikTok, too… see where blogging leads you?

And, every day, I feel blessed that I have such a wonderful Blogiy, still willing to read my ramblings, so THANK YOU!

I wouldn’t still be here if it wasn’t for you and your interactions with me!

Here’s to plenty more years together, too!
