My precious Pops!

A re post of one of my first few posts.

Oh I do love my Pops ๐Ÿ’—

Well, since I wrote about my marvellous mum, it would be totally awful of me not to mention my wonderful father, Papa, we called him when I was younger, it’s now morphed to Pops!

Dads are those men upon whom you end up judging pretty much every male in your life, and anyone coming into my life had a hard act to follow…
(So I totally lucked out with my gorgeous, kind, sensitive other half… More on him another post๐Ÿ˜!)

The youngest of a huge brood of children, countless nephews and nieces, (some of whom were even older than him!) it’s tough in a big family, being able to stand out, but you know what he did it!

He qualified as a dentist, and gave up much of his own time to make sure his elderly patients were ok, visiting them at lunchtimes to save them having to come out, being caring with child patients, he even had one gentleman who came every two years from Canada as he loved Dad so much! (And I’ll proudly say, he never converted to private practice!!! NHS all the way!!)

His great rhythm, and love of music got him dancing, and to this day, he wows us all with his Bhangra moves! “While I’m dancing, I forget my age, I feel 21 again, then I watch a video of the event and see an old man!” No Pops, you are not an old man, age ain’t nothing but a number!!
And that rhythm flows within our family blood, so when there’s a big gathering of our tribe, we really know how to party!

Pops has been the most amazing dad, seriously though…
He lost his own father at a precious young age, and I know he missed that influence, so he was determined to be the best father he could be to us kids.
And you know what, he was, and very much still is.

From the material things we wanted, holidays, clothes, to the most important thing, time and affection, he has always been there… Even now, there’s nothing a hug from Pops can’t make go away!

He’s been a terrific taxi service for us all, ferrying brother dearest to numerous sporting events over the years, every weekend, dropping and picking us up from university, and even when I had my children, 6 hour round trips to pick me up, so I could spend time back at ‘home’.
And he still hasn’t stopped, ok there may be more stopovers involved, but for a 70 year old, I don’t think that’s bad, do you?

He’s always been so giving, and always has time for everyone. I’ll be honest, when I was younger, sometimes I used to wonder why are we going here and there to various peoples houses or functions, let’s just have time as a family, why, just because so and so called, are you rushing here and there? But now as an adult, I’ve realised that, you know what, that’s just my Pops. And I wouldn’t change him for anything!

That’s one of his most amazing qualities, being there for everyone, come hell or high water. It’s testament to him, how many people proudly call him Nanaji, or Baba, and still come to him for advice, in our family, and from outside. Since he retired, he’s taken it a step further, and is now teaching healing Yoga to many people, and reaching the masses with his own TV show… And he doesn’t get paid… This is his giving back to the world, as he feels so blessed to have what he has been given in life.

He’s been a most amazing role model for brother dearest, and as said brother is about to embark on first time fatherhood, I can say with the greatest confidence, that he will also be a most amazing Pops too!!

It would be a mistake to emit the fact that he is a most loving grandfather (Nanu) to my two monkeys, and as I mentioned before, he will be a granddaddy to 3 soon!

So, thanks Pops, love you to the moon and back, and even more on top!
Your thinking has shaped mine, and I hope that even if I have half the qualities you possess, I will be a great human being also!๐Ÿ’—

15 Years Married

Fifteen years ago today, I woke extra early.

I was primped and preened to perfection and dressed as a bride… your bride.

Five years, we had been waiting, to make this official, and finally the day was here.

It flew.

A magical day where I felt like a Princess, finally swept off her feet by her Prince Charming.

And the last fifteen years have flown equally fast.

Two beautiful children, one fur baby, our own home, and each other.

What more could I want?

Nothing more.

Just many more years, like the ones we have already spent together.

Wishing a Happy 15th Anniversary to my darling Hubby Dearest. I love youย soooooo much, and feel blessed to have you by my side ๐Ÿ’–

Impromptu Day Trip!

As you may have seen, I have been busy on my exercise bike, this evening, pedalling away furiously, even in all this heat, as I may have overindulged a little today!

It all started quite normally.

A leisurely wake up, appreciating the last few days of the school holidays, and a late breakfast. ย Followed by reading of posts, and reading on my Kindle, lounging on the sofa, as you do.

Then Hubby Dearest came and asked what we wanted to do today.

While we were sorting the children’s rooms out, we hadn’t had a chance to take them anywhere fun, and the holidays are coming to a close soon enough, so we thought we could pop out for the afternoon.

The kids wanted a trip to the swimming pool, or the paddling pool out, Lil man wanted to go to the Cricket nets (a real fun family day!) but Hubby Dearest suggested visiting a Dog Home!

No, don’t get all excited, we haven’t come home with a Punjabi mutt to match Sonu Singh!

Hubby Dearest would love a dog dearly, but right now it doesn’t feel right. It would be unfair on a new pet to be settling in, and we are all back at school/work, but the children do love animals too, and they are always asking why the local pet shops don’t have cats and dogs.

We could have been sensible and found a place to visit that was in Kent, but we decided to go to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, in London!

So after lunch, we got into the car and off we went!

It was 2pm so we had two hours to at least get there, and we aren’t far from London…but there is always traffic! And don’t forget the heat! The AC decided to choose today to play up, and even with windows down, we were hot and bothered!

Lil Man was quite excited to pass The Oval Cricket ground on the way too!

At 3.30pm we pulled into a parking space conveniently close by, and paid for an hour’s parking (ยฃ2.50! Exhorbitant!) And our little adventure began…We had around an hour to go and visit both the Cats and Dogs.

I was not allowed to take photos inside, but oh, the little faces on the animals there! I think, if we were a little softer, and had we been there a tad longer, we would have been registering ourselves as a rehoming family… and would have ended up with at least 2 dogs and 3 more cats!

The kids where in their element!

They were flabberghasted at the fact that these animals needed homes. I think it was a good life lesson, taking them there, to see that you can’t make certain decisions light heartedly. So many of these animals were left there by people who couldn’t cope… And how stressful for the pet, who is used to their home, and then ends up in a pen, with all these strangers, however nice, looking after them.

We managed to drag ourselves away from there, just about and set off home, at around 4.30pm. And the wonderful bit of technology we call the Sat Nav decided to take us on a scenic route, all the way through the Centre of London!

Past the Houses of Parliament, the Shard and some intriguing ‘men’ climbing up a wall holding instruments!

It was 6.30pm and we had only got as far as Greenwich, near the O2, due to crazy traffic, so Hubby Dearest made a good call to stop there for dinner.

So glad to be out of the sweatbox, I mean car!

We went to Jimmy World Grill and Bar. It’s a huge World Buffet restaurant with Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Mexican and American cuisine… hence the manic cycling when we got back!

That’s how much I ate… oops!

And after eating we needed to get back to our real furbaby Sonu Singh, who had been waiting at home patiently…

But I had to take this photo of the masks on display in the restaurant!

20160825_194955

I love a good mask!

The sky was starting to get a little duller, and as we walked to the car, Lil Princess spotted the Canary Wharf skyline.. “Look, Daddy! There’s your old work!” Hubby Dearest looked over wistfully… I think even though working from home is a wonderful thing, he is missing life in London too!

(Oh, and ยฃ6 parking for 2 hours! What is it with London and crazy parking fees?!)

Canary Wharf

And now we are home, the children are asleep, possibly dreaming of new pets, and they have already mentioned going to the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home branch they ahve in Brands Hatch, closer to us, tomorrow!

But I would hate for our lil furbaby to think we are forgetting him…

Sonu Singh, we love you lots and lots, and you’ll always be our favourite kitty!

Bittersweet…

… But more sweet!

Today we celebrate the birthdays of my precious Lil Man, turning 11 today, and my darling Mum’s birthday too!

Mum, 11 years ago, I gave you a gift, I could be ever better… Your first grandchild. All I can give you now are a multitude of thanks. For being my mum, for making me, for being there all the time, my rock, loving me no matter what…

We wish you a most wonderful birthday today, and hope to see you soon to celebrate properly ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ

Lil Man, 11 years ago, you finally popped out, and into our world. A screaming ball of love and fun. So wanted were you, our first born, that when you were placed on my chest, we didn’t even think to ask whether you were boy or girl. The years of turmoil and heartache were worth it.

You have grown into a young man I am so proud of, coping with difficulties with gumption, a superstar in your chosen sporting activities, a champion dhol player, and an all round wonderful boy.

Today is bittersweet because as I wish you happy birthday, you’re not here with us. Instead you are celebrating your birthday away, with your school friends. I know you will be having fun, but know that we miss you and love you so much!

When you are back, you will have grown even more, in so many ways. A new maturity, after being away, and another year under your belt. Who cares if you haven’t gained as many inches as your peers.

Great things come in small packages, and you, my darling son, are one of the greatest small packages I ever did see!

Happy birthday Mum, and Lil Man!

๏ปฟ”Can’t you just let me poop?!”

It’s funny what you end up with, in life. A lot of your characteristics and personality are down to genes, (not jeans, which my Lil Man says he didn’t get from India, he bought from Asda! ๐Ÿ˜‚)

I look at myself and see the physical characteristics that were handed down to me from my parents.

My curly hair from Pops, which I lamented as a youngster, but which I love and wouldn’t change now.

My dark body hair… Also from my dad… Wish I’d got mums, she has hardly any!

But apparently I look a lot like her, and it is increasing with age.

People comment on my personality and say I’m like Pops with my dancing, and like my mum with my temperament.

I see the similarities between my Hubby Dearest and his parents too.

Then it makes me think what we have passed down to our own kids,

Lil Man looks a lot like his dad, but has my eyes. He is sporty like his dad, but loves to read like me. He is an early riser, and eats most foods, like me (though as a kid, I was a nightmare to feed!)

Lil Princess has my curly hair, some day she looks a lot like me as a young girl, but also my mother in law! She is a nightmare to feed (like me as a youngster, and her daddy now!) and like her daddy she is not a morning person..she needs 10 minutes to “stretch” and, when performing her morning ablutions she can’t be rushed, just like her dad!

This morning we were running late ( in fact she is making me so late I am able to write this post!) and I asked her to hurry up… The reply I got was the title of this post, “Can’t you just let me poop?!”

I gave up hurrying her along and quietly came downstairs to my cup of tea and ipad!
