Day 24 #Loveuary ❀ – Flowers

loveuary

Valentine’s Day has become synonymous with flowers, or red roses more than anything.

In the lead up to that special day, ten days previous, the shops were full of flower displays. All shades of red and pink were bursting out of plastic buckets, begging to be bought!

Now I do love a good flower, a beautiful bouquet, as much as the rest, But I feel sad that exorbitant mounts of money are exchanged for these blooms that don’t last very long, or get chewed by Sonu Singh!

This year I said to Hubby Dearest that a card would suffice. We don’t need the wishy-washy extras! He didn’t listen… but I got a different bloom…

A Chocolate Rose! Perfect! It wouldn’t last any longer than a real flower… I could scoff it in one sitting, but hey, flowers and chocolates combined into one, a great idea!

Explaining Storm Doris to The Kids!

If you live here in the UK you will have been bombarded by the multitude of weather warnings that have accompanied the latest storm to reach our shores from across the Atlantic.

Storm Doris!

We were warned of high-speed winds, some areas hitting over 90mph (we got around 60mph in our area) and high tides, 30cm of snow in the Scottish Highlands…

And sure enough, it was a pretty blustery day!

There was wind (a lot!), rain (brief but heavy!), cloud (all day) and blue skies too!

The wind blew all day, and as per government guidelines, we have to allow for indoor as well as outdoor play in nurseryΒ unless it is unsafe outside. Today was not unsafe, but dang cold in the wind! Nevertheless, as kids are, they wanted to run around like loonies in the gales!

Who am I to stop them?

My colleague and I wrapped ourselves and the kids up, and let them go crazy, as we stood there, rooted to the spotΒ unless a rather strong gust of wind uprooted us!

Sitting in my classroom every morning, we talk about the day and the weather. They all commented on the wind, and I mentioned that we were welcoming a guest for the day, Storm Doris.

Doris is a very old lady. It’s her birthday today. She is 1,000,000 years old! A million candles take a long time to blow out, so she will be huffing and puffing the whole day long!

Some of them asked to see her, but I said she was too far away, high up in the sky, like the Giant in Jack and the Beanstalk (our focus story this week!) but that we could still feel her blow!

So I apologise in advance to the parents of my students, who might be babbling on about Old Lady Doris, and her candles! That is what happens when my imagination comes into play at nursery!

Who Ate The Moon? By Shivangi Singh – A Mini Review!

A short while ago, I was asked by my blog pal Shivangi Singh to write a few words about her new children’s book, Who Ate The Moon? She was worried about my time, but I like to help out my fellow bloggers, so Iw s more than happy to comply!

wordpress

A sweet tale of two brothers enamoured by the moon. They find a way to take it home, to keep for themselves, but it disappears.

The story shows their faith that brings the moon back for them!

Sweetly written, with a short educational explanation about the real phases of the moon to end the book!

It is a simple tale which I think most young children would enjoy.

Available free on Apple inΒ IBooks,Β Β BlurbΒ and Smashwords.

Thanks Shivangi for inviting me to rad your lovely book !

#writespiration #104 52 WEEKS IN 52 WORDS WEEK 8 Choke / Bridge #writephoto

Today I am combining two of my weekly prompts, as they came up on the same day!

Writespiration by Sacha Black where the prompt word is Choke. The challenge is that we only have 52 words, no more no less, with which to spin a fictional web!

And

Sue Vincent’s #writephoto, where we have the following photo to use as we wish.

beneath-the-bridge

So here is my little tale…

A bridge over troubled water.

Or over hardly any water.

A stench so foul from the rotting debris, strewn into the water, pungent enough to make the hardiest human choke.

But not me. This place was perfect.

It smelled glorious to me, the new troll on the block, or under the bridge!
