Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 84

“Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” – Anon

Have you ever done that?

Realised that a situation is not good, and you have sat back patiently, or impatiently, waiting for whatever is happening to finish, before getting on with whatever you needed to do?

Sometimes, it is a good idea, but a lot of the time, it becomes a good excuse, a delay tactic, which ultimately means you may miss some amazing opportunities as you sit back, waiting.

If I may, I will tell you a little story…

Many moons ago, around 13-14 years ago, Hubby Dearest and I were at that stage in our marriage where we were discussing starting a family.

Of course we both wanted children, but it was never the right time. My job, his job, money, space… excuses were easy to find.

But in the end, an episode of Friends made us realise we had to get on this horse and ride it, for however long the journey, as there was never going to be a ‘right time’. WE had to make that time right.  Monica and Chandler were having the same discussions as us regarding starting a family, and Chandler was hesitant because nothing was how he imagined it would be when he decided to become a dad.  But something, I can’t remember what, made him realise he had to take the bull by the horns, as it were, and start the process, no matter how unprepared he was.

I made Hubby Dearest watch this episode, after watching it myself, and it struck a chord with him too.

And it’s a good thing too.  If we hadn’t started trying then, goodness knows how long before we would have found out all my problems. It could have been too late, We may not have been able to be parents to the two nutcases we are now proud to call our kids!

It wasn’t an easy dance through that storm you know. Maybe it would have been easier to just sit it out… but then we would have been sat here, regretting not trying, and possibly still childless…

We did dance.

We let that storm wash right over us, and we picked the right steps to waltz through a tough rhythm of rain beating down on us. It was hard, but we did it, and boy are we glad we did!

The saying ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ is a shorter version of the above quote. Each storm we weather, makes us stronger, and able to cope with the next…

So, when things are beating you down, when you think things are just too tough, try.

Seriously, try and face it, work it to your advantage. Most situations can be turned around, if you have the courage to face them.

And on that note, I wish you a very positive, happy Sunday Peeps!

my-vibrating-vertebraeMy Vibrating Vertebrae: and other poems by Agnes Mae Graham

A wonderful collection of poems by Agnes Mae Graham, saved and published by her children C. Graham and L. J. Baker as a tribute to her mother. I read this book over a weekend. Many of the poems are playfully clever, a clear sign of Ms. Graham’s robust sense of humor. She even titled one “Nonsense Rhyme.” Yet she also writes poignantly about her love of home and family, and the trials of life including a…

#SoCS Sept. 24/16 – Bus

Linda’s prompt

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “bus.” Use it as it is, or find a word with the letters “bus” in it. Have fun!

It’s been aeons since I went on a bus.

When I was younger, my mum dropped my brother and I to school, from the age of three, all the way to 17.

I really wanted to ride the bus, and be ‘grown-up’, and I finally got a chance when I was around 16/17. I had an after school course to attend, and by then my mum had gone from being a SAHM (Stay At Home Mother) to managing my Pop’s dental practice. Granted, we lived above the practice, so it was no hardship to pop out and pick us up, but I fought for the chance to show my maturity!

It was a fun filled experience, with a little apprehension as my friends didn’t live in my direction, so I was going alone. The first few times I stayed downstairs, like a good girl, then I got the guts to try the top deck…

And what a day to decide to try being brave.

There were the ‘cool’ kids and trouble-makers from the local Comp school sat there, and I was sort of stuck in the corner. As the journey went, a man sitting a couple of seats ahead, unrolled what looked like a tool holder, to reveal a selection of rather sharp knives…

Eeeek!

Then I thought I would slowly get up and sit downstairs for the remainder of the journey.

Someone was coming up the stairs. A rather odd looking man.

A rather odd looking man.

Odd? I’m being kind! He was downright scary! Especially as he decided to pull a gun out of his pocket and point it at everyone!

Slowly, he waved the barrel around. There was silence. A couple of passengers risked it and slipped down the stairs.

My stop was the next but one, so I thought it would be better to leave the bus early and walk a bit more, to escape from the mad gunman.

I got downstairs and heard another passenger tell the driver there was a  man with a gun upstairs. The bus stopped at my alighting point and I hurried off, breathing a sigh of relief!

Until I turned around.

The mad gunman was right there, behind me, off the bus too!

Double EEEEEEEKKKKK!

Was this the end for me?

Silently the man caught my eye, turned and walked off in the opposite direction!

I ran home. And I never insisted I wanted to go on the bus myself again!

Obviously, since then, I have used the bus and public transport, but never with such drama!

And this was a true story!!!!

Sonu, Ginger And Other Furry Creatures

It’s been a while since Sonu Singh had a featured spot on the blog, so let me tell you what he was up to the other day…

Our next door neighbour (the one with ‘issues’) has two lovely cats, Smudge, who is an old cat, and a kitten called Ginger. They are outdoor cats, unlike our Sonu Singh, so we often see them in our garden.

The other day, Sonu Singh and Ginger had a face off!

He is a true cutie (not as cute as our Sonu Singh though, obviously!) and they stared  each other out for ages! Ginger won’t run when we are watching him from inside, but if I was to go out, he runs away!

And the other furry creature?

Well, a little background first.

My neighbour has been recommended for 24-hour secure housing, along with her husband, as her problems are becoming too severe. They will be moving soon. Smudge and Ginger are moving with them too. (We’ll miss the kitties!)

Anyway, our neighbour knocked on my door last week, to ask me if we wanted a rabbit. Apparently, she had one and she can’t take it with her. Unfortunately, we can’t have it, but I reassured her I would ask around. Then she proceeded to tell me that the voices in her head were telling her to get a knife and slit her wrists… I got her back home safely, worried about her, and wondering about this mysterious bunny that was now on the scene…

The other night, Hubby Dearest popped out to the summer house in our garden to fetch a beer (special fridge back there for drinks!). He came back and called to me, “Ritu… I just went to get a beer, and was faced with a rather cute, fluffy bunny!”

Well, quick as a flash, I was down there, with a torch, and a partially clothed Lil Man, sans his pyjama bottoms, to go see the bunny. It was dark, and after a few seconds of adjustment, we saw him. A gorgeous fluff ball or grey, with a really fluffy head!

He was terrified, but after around 10 minutes I was able to get close enough to catch him, and pick him up!

The poor thing was shaking!

The obvious thing to do was take a selfie with him  take him home.

20160921_200855

Oops, my camera phone slipped and took a selfie!

Yes, he looks huge, but I think it was the angle! He was so light and felt extremely slight under all that fur!

So I took him back, and it appears that the hutch was left open in error, and the little bunny, Bugsy, as I now know him, escaped into our garden!

Hubby Dearest is having ideas… I caught his suspiciously looking at something on the iPad later that night. he hid it first (hmmm…porn?!) but then gave up the device for me to peruse… he was searching about how Cats and Rabbits could get on! Someone is clearly hoping to increase our furbaby family, but no… I had to say no! Jees, he’s such a softy!!!

I am so glad we found him, though… there are foxes around our area, and he wouldn’t have survived a night…

I shan’t share the picture of the rather large, hairy spider we found on that same night, though… that was HUGE, HAIRY and SCARY!!!!!

Ritu’s Healthy Living – Week 7 #icandothis

healthy-living

It’s been another week of experimenting with healthy food, and cooking techniques for me!

I bought a ‘Spiralizer’ to make my own vegetable ‘spaghetti’ and tried it with a courgette… it was brilliant!

20160921_183232

I made Slimming World Chips, and they were yummy, and Syn-Free too!

20160922_204436

And I took a HUGE step. I don’t really like much fish, but I do try to eat it, however I can’t do king prawns, shelled or otherwise. However, i cooked some today in a stirfry, and they weren’t half bad!

20160923_190215

Other things I have eaten this week…

I haven’t actively exercised this week, but my Fitbit tells me that I have been stepping between 12-16000 steps everyday, so that is good!

And the important bit, my loss this week was…

1lb!

Not bad after the meal out, alcohol, and cinema popcorn (And a slight chocolate blowout on Tuesday!)

So the total is

11.5lb since I started this!

Go me!!!!!

Not much more until I hit my 1 stone first target!
