Chai And A Chat #41 #ChaiAndAChat

Hey there Peeps! Time for our weekly catch up! Did I end up with a more calm week? Read on to find out!

  • If we were sipping chai together I’d tell you that this week was marginally better than last week, but still no smooth sailing!
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d say that school has been busy, as ever, with transition days for our new kids, preparation for end of year assemblies, thinking about cards for staff who are leaving/having babies/turning 70, Sports Day, more training and handovers for my new subject lead next year, and Book Fairs!
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d tell you that I have a new challenge next year, with a student with Autusim joining my class. He has very specific needs and routines, and there is no one to be his one to one support, so this will be interesting…. He joins another child I have who has certain issues, one who is showing signs of sone sort or SEN, and two others with extreme behaviour problems. Oh, I’ll have my work cut out, but hey, it’ll be my class, and there will be continuity, so I hope I can do justice! I thing there will be a bit of blogger fodder in it for me too….
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d groan and say we had Sports Day! It’s been a while since I was involved in Sports Day as it is usually on a Thursday, which is my Nursery day. This year though it was on a Wednesday which meant I got a chance to get more involved in it all. My class were a great bunch, encouraging each other, and showing some real competitiveness too! One lost her shoe in her running race, so I ended up running the race with her so she didn’t feel like she was the only one running at the end. Then I accompanied a toddler to the finishing line in our siblings race, and finally I was dragged to the starting line again in the Teachers race! No. I dodnt win, but was 4th out of around 9. I’m not complaining, but I was the next day when the aches and pains were showing themselves!
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d mention that it was my nephew’s first birthday, and the first anniversary of Pops and his emergency surgery on Monday. The thought of that day is always bittersweet, with the worry of his op, and the news that the baby had been born!
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d yawn as I tell you that Saturday, I was up at some ungodly hour, unable to sleep with the muggy weather. I ended up reading for a coule of hours before I could sleep, then when I finally dozed off, it was time to wake up ready for taking Lil Princess to swimming! The morning passed in a haze, and I didn’t feel right until I’d had a 2 hour nap in the afternoon!
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d tell you that Sunday was another Cricket dedicated morning, but I was determined to have a little me time too, so I went to get my nails done! And Cricket-wise, Sunday was a good day for many… Lil Man’s team won their match, and England were crowned Cricket World Cup Winners for the first time, after a nailbiting, historic Super Over end to the match! Now, if you know me, you know I am not sports orientated at all, but even I got excited about this! And to top it off, the Wimbledon final was on too, so tensions were high right up until the end of these matches!
  • If we were sipping that chai together, and possibly reaching for cake or cookies I’d tell you that this week we have the end of year assembly for Reception class, reports need to go out to the parents too, and there is a toy sale being organised by my councillors, and the Eco councillors, to raise money for playground equipment!
  • If we were sipping that chai together, and possibly reaching for cake or cookies I’d say that I have a dinner out on Friday that I am looking forward to, to celebrate the impending wedding of our Head!
  • If we were sipping that chai together, and possibly reaching for cake or cookies I’d mention that Pops is coming over on Saturday, to bring my dear aunt and uncle who have come over from Kenya to visit. I haven’t seen them for a long time, and I am really looking forward to it! This is my Mum’s elder brother and his wife. They are such wonderful people and my aunt is one of the women in my life, I class as one of my ‘other’ mothers!

Right, I think that is enough, don’t you, Peeps?!

Tell me how your week has been!

  3. Spend 18 years snatching moments to write
  4. Finally type The End
  5. Realise that is not the end really
  6. Reread.
  7. Rewrite
  8. Reread
  9. Rewrite
  10. Get readers
  11. Rewrite
  12. Try and submit to agents
  13. Feel down, then perk up when you remember J.K. Rowling and Stephen King had many rejections
  14. Find an editor
  15. Get excited and look at cover possibilities
  16. Read feedback from editor
  17. Cringe
  18. Rewrite
  19. Reread
  20. Tentatively send out to next set of readers

This is when it can go one of a few ways.

  • You find an agent, and get a fantastic publishing deal! Yay!
  • You find your mailbox cluttered with rejections and you decided to give up… Don’t!
  • You look at the possibility of Self/Indie Publishing, find a fantastically supportive community and find your success that way! Double Yay!

I’m at the post Editor feedback rewriting stage now. Thankfully there weren’t as many cringes as I thought there would be… It’s just crazy trying to find time to finish the rewrite!

Hopefully it won’t be long before I can announce something postive about this book!!!

July 11: Flash Fiction Challenge – Koala’s Kingdom

Charli’s Carrot Ranch 99-word Fiction Challenge

July 11, 2019, prompt: “My kingdom for a koala!” In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about a koala in a kingdom. You can create a character out of Norah’s koala and give it a Vermont adventure. Or you can make up a story however you want! Can you pull off a BOTS (based on a true story)? Go where the prompt leads!

Koala’s Kingdom
A parcel had arrived, covered with Australian postmarks.
‘Oh, how thoughtful,’ Ritu smiled at the generosity of her cousins.
The baby was only a few weeks old, and a package rammed full of gifts for her and her son had been sent to her.
Books, clothes, little fur boots, and a tiny koala for baby to snuggle with.
Soon his cot became crowded with soft toys, so Ritu had to move them.
A small hammock was constructed where the myriad toys sat, with Koala right at the front.
He was totally happy, high up, able to survey his kingdom.

Based on a true story. When Lil Man was born, we did indeed receive a little stuffed Koala toy!

Castle #writephoto

Sue’s #WritePhoto prompt this week:

Beauty Sleeps

“Oh! Well, erm, it’s not very big, is it?” Sleeping Beauty eyed up what was to be her new home.

Phillip looked from his humble abode towards his new bride. He knew Sleeping Beauty had hight expectations. He’d seen her own home.

It wasn’t just a castle, but a palace of mamouth proportions.

Yet this was his home. It wasn’t his fault that his kingdom was small, so required a smaller than average castle.

But he was most definitely a Prince.

And he deserved his Princess.

She’d looked so beautiful, lying there in that glass casket, he just had to wake her. And when those creepy dwarves came bouncing out, his first instinct was to draw his sword, to protect his new found Princess, until she went all gooey after setting eyes on them.

They had some funny names… Sleepy, Dopey, Grumpy, to name a few. And there were a lot of them.

It turned out they had been protecting her.

She was still staring at his castle with a look of slight disdane upon her face.

Hang on a minute, Phillip thought. She had been living with those little people in a cottage that was about the size of one of the small cupboards in his castle. How could she complain about his home?

“Big enough for us to be happy, my love. Big enough.”

1.How important is Wi-Fi for you? Is warm running water or wireless internet more important? That’s a toughie! I definitely love my WiFi, but then I have a good data amount on my mobile, so I could, I guess, do away with WiFi if I had to, but warm running water is a must for my bubble baths!
2. Name your favourite blogger (any genre) There are just too many to mention just one!
3.If you have to pick a place to settle down forever, where would it be and why? Anywhere my loved ones are.
4.What is one silly moment you’ve had that you’d like to share? My life tends to be a collection of silly moments… hard to choose just one!
5. What is your favorite trait about yourself? My positivity
6. What is your favorite time of day? First thing in the morning when I feel like every day is the start of something good!
7.Tell us your favorite food/cuisine. I love a good reast dinner!

9. If you could change something in the world, what would it be? Acceptance between all.
10. What are you most passionate about? Teaching my Early Years children and writing.
11. What is so special about your blog? It’s a place you will find no pretences. And you are pretty sure to find something you like. From Fiction to poetry, real life to the absurd, recipes and book reviews and all manner of posts in between!
