Hey all, yes, I am hard at work with my writing, honestly!
But I came up against a little barrier, and wanted to get your feedback on it.
In my WIP, as it is based on a Sikh family, to make it authentic, there are certain words or phrases that have to be written in the lingo Punjabi to make sense, if you know what I mean.
My dilemma is this,
a) do I write the word/phrase in Punjabi and then the translation in brackets after?
b) do I include a glossary, which means flicking back and forth to see what something means?
Or
c) do I have little footnote translations at the bottom of the page?
I like the brackets idea because it is kinda straight away, but worry that it would ruin the flow of the text or speech.
The glossary is fine in a physical book but on an e-reader, it would be more annoying to flit back and forth
And the last idea, I could just about format a book to include this, but I think an e-book would be a nightmare, as if you adjust the font to your personal choice, the footnotes wouldn’t sit on the right pages!
There are some words that are repeated many times so once they were introduced, I would hope that the reader got the translation, but there are some that will only be used once or twice…

A while ago I was contacted by an author, Shaun Hume, asking me if I would be interested in reading one of his books. Ewan Pendle and the White Wraith. (Read my review here!)
It wasn’t a genre that I would pick myself, but as a recent convert to YA fiction, thanks to Shelley Wilson, I thought I’d give it a go!
I surprised myself. This Harry Potter-esque book made me want to go and read more of this type of fiction! (Sequel out, tentatively in October 2018!). Last week Shaun reached out to me with regards to another of his books, Tightrope Walker. It is another YA book, but different to Ewan Pendle’s story.

This isn’t the usual type of fiction I read, but having really, and surprisingly, enjoyed Hume’s other book Ewan Pendle and the White Wraith, I wanted to give it a go.
Hetta is a girl with a lot of power for a child so young, having been blessed with a skill as a Tightrope Walker. No really knowing what she is able to do, she has been drawn into many battles, leading her army to victory.
What I liked about this was that we still don’t really know what she is, and the end of the story leaves you dangling, waiting to see what she finds out about her powers.
Lots of emotive language used to describe events and a cliff hanger ending to whet your appetite for the next instalment!

It’s the first time in a long while, that I haven’t had something specific planned for a Monday morning post.
Today I woke, got myself settled, checked my reader, emails, notifications across Social Media, then realised the date.
31st July.
That means that tomorrow, the 1st August, is when I promised myself (rather publically) that I would concentrate on my writing.
No pressure eh!
Soooo… What to do?
I can’t say goodbye to you all for a month, because that is just not the way I am!
But I guess I shall have to cut down on my general posts for a while, unless something really inspires me to write (and it will… it always does!)
I am going to keep up with all the weekly challenges that I participate in, and my Friday Healthy eating update and Spidey on a Sunday, but the rest, may just fall a little by the wayside.
But that doesn’t mean I am not here, oh no!
I’ll still be around, reading your wonderful posts, and interacting with you.
I’ll just be a little stricter with myself, and limit it to certain times of the day (yeah right!)
So I am off now to enjoy my last No Pressure day before something will miraculously start appearing on my screen, as August inspires me to write!
