Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 122 – Happy Father’s Day

Spidey

“A Father is someone you look up to, no matter how tall you grow.” – Anon

What a great saying! Thanks, Spidey!

I know that not everyone has an agreeable relationship with their family, but I do and have been blessed with wonderful parents.

And the line above is something that rings true for me and my brother when applied to my Pops, most definitely!

My brother towers above our Pops, yet I know that for him (and me) Pops will be one person on a pedestal who we look up to forever.

A kind, caring, considerate, loving person… who is there for us all, no matter what. Someone who we can only aspire to be like… If we only have half his qualities, we would be blessed with being great human beings!

So, Happy Fathers Day to my Pops.

Happy Fathers day to all daddies, and those who are like daddies too!!!!!!

Happy Sunday Peeps!

A Girl’s First Love – Happy Father’s Day

It’s true, you know, a girl’s first love will inevitably be her father. He will be the benchmark for pretty much every male in her life.

Some aren’t lucky, they don’t get the most perfect example of man to look up to, and yes, that may colour their choices in the future, but no matter what, their father is still, very often, to them at that time, the BEST!

I’ve said it many times, and I’m not afraid to say it again, but I really have had the BEST father a girl could hope for! A beautiful, kind, generous soul, who has given his all to make the best life for his family.

Growing up, he didn’t have the influence of his own father, as my grandfather passed away when he was very young. His male influences were his elder brother and brother-in-laws, and once he was married, he had my other grandfather as a great pillar of strength behind him, until his untimely demise.

He felt a gap in his own childhood, and though he wasn’t one to ask for anything, grateful for all the love and affection he was given, it wasn’t really until he became a father himself that he realised what he had missed and what he wanted to make sure he gave us, his own children.

If you ask Pops, he would tell you that my brother and I were the first things in his life that were really his, and he gave his all, alongside my mum, to give us the life he felt we should have, and the attention that possibly, he didn’t have.

Girls first love 01

Love has always been there in abundance, from the cuddles, and hugs, to the affection, filled smiles, the ever smiling eyes that just overflow with feeling. The concerned lectures and odd tellings off were even filled with love. The taxi service taking us to various extra-curricular activities on the weekends, especially my brother, with his sport!

Taking us to, and bringing us back from school and university, he did it all, and when I got married and had my own babies he would happily drive a 6 hour round trip, to pick me and baby up, to take us home for a few days, then drop us back. Not easy for a 60-year-old heart patient, but he did it because that is the person he is.

I could never be upset, or mad at my Pops. If he was ever to have to have a go at us, it hurt him as much as it hurt us, as he hated being negative, or strict.  And, that mellowness has grown over the years to show an amazing peace within him, and spirituality, which just emanates from him.

And now I’m nearing 40, and he will be a sprightly septuagenarian next year, I still feel like his little girl, and I know that that is what I will be to him forever. I know if I feel down, I can count on Pops to say something to ‘turn my frown upside down’, and give me advice that is near enough always right!

When I was going to get married, I dreaded telling Pops about Hubby Dearest… Would anyone ever be good enough for his daughter? But he was so happy! He met his prospective son-in-law and welcomed him with open arms! Apparently my choice was good! It took us a while to set a date for the wedding, and when it finally happened, we started planning to the max, only to be requested, by my in-laws, to delay the wedding by a couple of weeks, on the advice of an astrologer who my mum-in-law consulted. I was distraught! The venue we had booked for the reception was not available on the new date, and it was just too much!

I sat with Pops and said I didn’t care, we should just leave everything as it was, after all it had taken so long to get this far. But Pops talked me round, and his biggest argument, the game-changer, “So what if you get married 2 weeks later, beta (dear), at least I’ll get you with me for another 2 weeks.” Well! It was a done deal then… It hit home that I would no longer be under his shelter, in the same way, once I got married…

Going forward, we married and became parents ourselves.

I watch Hubby Dearest with our own Lil Princess and see that love between them. I see the special place each holds for the other. I can see her wrapping her daddy around her little finger, and I can see him swallowing the bait whole, and her getting away with murder all the time, because he couldn’t believe that ‘his little girl’ could do anything wrong. I see her idolising her Daddy, and when he is away on business, I know the effect it has on both our kids, they miss him so much, and it fills my heart with joy, that they share such a special bond, father and children.

His previous job meant that he was there early morning, then home to say good night. This new job of his means he is at home more and I love to see their relationship go from strength to strength. As a father, he is more in tune with the needs of his children, and able to take an active part in their life.

In a nutshell, he has all the qualities of my first love, my Pops. They may be there in different quantities, in a different mix, but the end result is the same, a fantastic husband, and loving father, who gives his all for his family!

Girls first love 02

So, may I take this opportunity to thank my Pops for being the most amazing father to me, and to my Hubby Dearest, for being such an amazing dad to our two monkeys too!

Happy Father’s Day to them both, and to all the fathers, and those like father’s out the rest!

Know you are loved, respected and appreciated…and especially to, those fathers of daughters…yes, you will always be our first loves! ❤

Nand-no’s! #servicewithasmile

I love Nando’s!

Doesn’t everyone love Nando’s?

Actually, scratch that.

My own daughter didn’t like Nando’s! We had to always get her a sneaky Happy Meal so we could sit in the restaurant to eat at Bluewater! She couldn’t even hack the ‘Plain-ish’ marinade! Seriously?!

But note the didn’t… something changed recently and she has decided that Nando’s Wings, Plain-ish of course, are rather yummy!

So, today we popped to Bluewater for some lunch, and the decision was made that we go to … Nando’s!

It took a while to get a table.

Even the waitress at the door was surprised at how busy the restaurant was. “You’d think everyone would be out enjoying the 28 degrees C heat that we’re experiencing eh!” she chirruped! A 15-minute wait was agreeable as I could send Hubby Dearest off with the kids to look at something while I waited, and had a pleasant chat with our door person!

A table was spotted a little earlier and soon we were seated. Boy, was it hot, but no matter! Let’s appreciate the warmth we have finally been blessed with!

The food was ordered, except the chicken wings would take 15-20 minutes. At least the cashier had a kind of smile on her face!

No bother. We could cope with that!

Ten minutes later, I was pulling my hair out. The kids were bickering, the temperatures were rising, in my mind as well as in the atmosphere!

Then another lovely smiley lady came by. ” I am so sorry, but the order you placed. Well, it’s going to take around 20 minutes as there was no room in the

Smiley Lady: ” I am so sorry, but the order you placed. Well, it’s going to take around 20 minutes as there was no room in the oven so they will take a little longer…”

Me: “Oh, that’s ok, the lady already told me!”

Smiley Lady: ” Erm, no, I mean an extra 20 minutes…”

Me: “Oh. But the kids are waiting (and driving me crazy…!)”

Smiley Lady: Can we give you anything in the meantime? A complimentary starter…?”

Me: “Oh ok! Garlic bread will be fine,” [turns to Hubby Dearest] “is one enough? Lil Princess won’t eat it anyway…” [turns to Smiley Lady] “A garlic bread is fine, thank you!”

Smiley Lady: “Just the one? Are you sure?”

I nodded and sent her on her way.

And it was with us in seconds, it seemed. Lil Princess turned her nose up at it. “School does the best Garlic Bread. This is yucky.”

We shared it amongst the rest of us. As there was one bite left, she decided to take an interest. ” Mmmm! This is yummy! Mummy can we have more?” Typical!

Roll on the next 15 minutes!

Meanwhile, the two ladies sat next to us were looking a little miffed. One had her meal, while the other was sat waiting.

On asking at the counter, it appeared that her food had been forgotten!

My kids were starting to growl now for sustenance. They are not attractive when hungry!

It had hit the half an hour mark. I was minute watching!

Looking over at the serving counter, our meals were sat there, waiting to be lovingly served with a smile to us.

A (different) waitress looked at it, and the accompanying receipt. And ignored our food!

Hmmm! Okay. Maybe something was still missing from the order.

The lady next to us caught her attention, and as she came over to the table, she mentioned the lack of a meal for her companion.

“Er, while you are on your way, please could we have our food? I believe it’s there, waiting to be served…” Said with a smile, obviously! It’s Ritu we are talking about here!

Well, she looked at me… looked over, then sloped over to the serving desk. Picked up our meals and brought them over, placing them in front of me rather clumsily, leaving me to hand them to the correct people. My one was last, and she looked at me with a rather dour face and said “Sorry for the delay…” then sloped off to get our neighbour’s meal.

We all looked at each other.

Sincerity in an apology means so much!

The other lady’s meal was brought over in a similar fashion so (it was a mum and daughter combo) Mum got up and went to the counter to place a complaint. Daughter started to eat, but Mum wasn’t coming back in a hurry! She felt bad at eating while Mum’s food was going cold!

When she arrived, it was with a promise of a free meal next time! I said she should have asked for free sides and a dessert instead! This way, they would still have to come back to redeem the compensation!

Anyway… the food was good, as always!

And I didn’t see the dour waitress again. But a smiley waiter did pop up several times to ask if everything was ok with us, and our neighbours!

What made me laugh afterwards was reading an advert that they had placed (in the loo of all places) for people to come join their Nando’s team!

One of the requirements was people skills and smiles! Four out of five members of staff we encountered can’t be too bad eh!

I can’t help but think this young lady was suited to ‘back of house’ duties!

Maybe she was having a bad day… who knows, but it can grate on a customer if they are already waiting for late food/having to request forgotten food, and then get served with a cold apology to accompany said late/forgotten food!

As I said at the beginning…

I love Nando’s!

TJ’s Household Haiku – Full & Only

TJ is back with another set of great prompts, photographic and wordy!Viacar of Wakefield with illustrations by Hugh Thomson

Full & Only

Firstly TJ, I totally agree with you! The art of letter writing has waned, and it is such a shame! I try to encourage my children to write a letter or two once in a while, to their grandparents and uncle in Finland!

A couple of weeks ago, an envelope arrived for Lil Princess and she was ecstatic to receive a letter from her best friend who has moved to a different area of the country! She quickly wrote a reply back and is now awaiting a reply!

So the first Haiku is for her!

Full of the joy that
Only a letter can bring
A smile on her lips

The second inspired by the beautiful photo and letter opener.

Just a little slit
In a bulging envelope
True friendship is found
