Smoke #writephoto

Sue’s Photo Prompt this week…

smoke

This just wasn’t fair, you know.

They always know how to find me.

I can’t help it though. Haven’t you seen the size of my belly?

I’d been fed up (again) of being ignored (again), so thought I’d run away (again). They were always busy with her, my sister. Ballet classes, horse riding, gymnastics… she always had all these great clubs to go to, because she was good at all these things. No, not good, but brilliant!

Tall, slim, pretty, with that angelic face and smile that melted all the hearts who encountered it.

The total opposite of me. Two years older than her, but 4 inches shorter, orthodontic braces to correct my overbite, and a rather rotund figure. I can’t help that though, whenever she didn’t want to eat something she would give it to me, and I, being the protective older sister, would wolf down her extras, so she didn’t get in trouble.

I didn’t realise until a lot later, how much of a mistake that was!

Still, I do like my food. At least when I go to college, I can forget her perfection, and indulge in what I am good at.

Culinary art.

Delectable cuisines from around the world…

Ok, so I’m doing a catering course.

They never complain when whatever I have been cooking graces the table, but aside from a flippant “Ta love!” I don’t get a second glance.

So I decided that I would do it. Run away, but properly, today.

There is no going back.

Well, there wasn’t, until that smoke wafted into the cave where I had painfully secreted myself…

The scent of a barbeque.

How dare they?

That was my speciality!

But you know the worst thing?

I could smell burning in that smoke! And they all know that one thing I can’t bear is good food being ruined.

I’ll just go and sort it out, it’s only one barbeque… I guess they deserved one more chance to show they care…

… and, well, I was kinda hungry!

A little while ago, I mentioned… quite discretely and with absolutely no bouncing around on tables or wild whooping… that this blog, the Daily Echo, had been nominated for the UK Blog Awards.

The surprise was genuine… so was the honour. I did not know the person who had nominated me and I was utterly gobsmacked when I realised the email was not a joke.

The awards consider business, professional and personal blogs side by side. The prize is an opportunity to write professionally… and that I would like.

Having said that, the comments on the post I put out then were amazing…and I honestly felt as if I had already won the biggest prize possible. Which is why, when they asked me to write an overview of the blog, I included some of them. It is the people who come here and read, share, and take time to comment…

Reiki Nanu!

This last week, amongst other things, My dear Lil Man decided that it would be a good idea to get concussed by a stray football!

On Thursday I got a call from his friend’s mum (He goes there after school and I pick him up from there) to say he was in a bad way, crying and headachey because of a hit to the head.

Obviously I left work ASAP and rushed to get him. A couple of years ago he got hit on the nose quite hard by another ball, and was concussed then too.

The boy was a mess. Tears flowing from a severe headache, but he was not compliant about getting checked out.

We agreed that if he woke in the morning with a headache, then Daddy would take him to the hospital to get checked.

Obviously, that was what had to happen. His temperature was up, and he was still suffering from a severe headache.

The Dr said he needed to refrain from any contact sport for a minimum of 3 weeks.

So, no football on Saturdays this side of Christmas, and PE at school would need t be limited. His only concern was that he wanted to be able to play badminton! Luckily the Dr said that should be ok!

We have been lucky enough to have my Precious Pops and Mum here for the weekend, and Pops is a Reiki healer, amongst other things.

So he worked his magic on Lil Man this morning too!

He said he thought it was funny when Nanu tickled him. Pops had to explain that he only touched his forehead once… the rest was the energy from the Reiki!

Not to be left out, Lil Princess also had a session as she has this lingering cough…

She said she could really feel the warmth in her chest as he performed the Reiki!

And talking of Lil Princess and her cough… Nanu/Pops always has remedies for things, but you know kids, they don’t like these natural, strange tasting concoctions. I said he could try and convince her, and I would be happy to make it if she agreed!

Their conversation went a little like this…

Sitting here listening to Pops trying to convince my daughter about drinking warm milk with turmeric and honey… good luck Pops!

Pops:”You know sometimes the things that taste good aren’t good for you and the things that taste bad are good for you.”
Sim:”Sweets are yummy and good for you. I eat them”!
Pops:”We’ll they aren’t really good for you…”
Sim: shrugs shoulders and continues playing games Robloks!

Hmmm… I wonder what the answer will be when I ask her to drink some later???

Allergic To My Fitbit!

I was so happy when I got my Fitbit for my birthday!

I’ve been wearing it everyday for 3 months, but I did notice a small rash under one area appearing.

In the past I have been allergic to certain metals (nickel) used in watches, so I tend to wear bracelet watches that are loose.

This has an elastomer strap and there is a small amount of nickel in the clasp.

I have turned it round, loosened it slightly, and worn a plaster to allow the sore to heal.

It eventually does, and things are ok for a while.

But last week it happened again, and by Friday the sore was so painful, I had to take my beloved Fitbit off!

Ouch!

Will possibly need to return it… 😦
