Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 119

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Here is a truly apt quote Spidey has found, thinking back to the happenings of the past week, here in the UK.

I know it may seem a very idealistic way to think, but surely we need to have this positivity and not lose hope that humanity has failed…

Watching a clip from the news earlier, it cemented some of my thoughts regarding the whole terrorist thing.

Earlier this week there was a vigil in Manchester for the victims of this atrocious attack. A Doctor, who is Muslim, was being interviewed. Her husband is a specialist surgeon, and upon hearing about the blast, he forgot everything and rushed to the hospital to help. After 12 hours helping out, he came back exhausted but pleased he could help.

Later in the day they received phone calls from fellow Muslim friends saying that they wanted to attend the vigil but were scared to go as they felt their headscarves would make them targets.

Because people hear about ISIS and the Islamic Extremist groups that have been responsible for so many recent attacks, there is a vast amount of folk who tar all Muslims with the same brush.

But this is so not the case! The majority of Muslim people I know condemn all these attacks and hold no belief even slightly similar to the thoughts of these monsters.

Yet a mosque was attacked that day too.

Does this not make the revenge attackers just as bad?

We need to stay focused, stay positive, and realise that there is a small amount of folk out to ruin the lives of many, not a whole race, or religious persuasion.

On this note, I say have a wonderful Sunday Peeps, stay safe!

“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations” – Unknown

How often do we find ourselves in a situation where the next big life decision involves a fork in the road.

You need to choose which road to follow.

More often than not, one path will be simple, and the other filled with some sort of obstacles along the way.

Fearing what difficulties we may have to endure, we may opt for the simple route.

The easy way out.
The path of least resistance.
The path where nothing really changes.

But let’s face it, most of us have a dream, are hankering for something special to happen.

Thing is, these dreams, they don’t just come true by you wishing for them. You need to put some graft into achieving them too.

That’s where that difficult path comes into play.

You must always remember that those unfamiliar routes, tough journeys, involve elements which will strengthen you as a person, and prepare you for the chance that your dream may actually come true!

But if you choose the easy way, your dream will still be there… but that is all it’ll ever be.

So go out there Peeps, and think, if some difficulty arises ahead of you, it’s nothing to fear, but from it will only come something that will help you on your way to achieving your dreams.

Happy Sunday Peeps!

Sue’s #writephoto prompt this week.

In the darkness, all seemed hopeless. What was I supposed to do?

I’d done what I had seen done in countless films, gone to the confessional in the church.

I’m not a church-goer. I don’t know whether it would help me, but they always seem so relieved in the movies, like a weight lifted off their shoulders, then something miraculous usually happens and all is right again.

But nothing did happen initially. I came out, after pouring it all out to whoever was behind that curtain, still feeling full of guilt.

Sitting in a pew, I looked up at the cross ahead of me.

The night was drawing in fast, the setting sun casting long shadows across the whole of the church.

I closed my eyes. I wanted to cry. Maybe I just needed to shut my eyes forever.

That’s one way the guilt would go.

I opened my eyes again.

The whole church was shrouded in darkness.

How long had my eyes been shut?

Suddenly, a light shone in from outside.

Looking up, I saw a lantern illuminating the church with a dull glow.

Then I looked back at the cross.

I don’t know why but something lifted from my shoulders.

Maybe things actually would be ok…

Fixed Vs. Growth Mindset

The other month we had a staff training session.
You know the feeling right?
A whole day sitting, listening to someone chit chatting away about things that are totally irrelevant.
Techniques that will probably be forgotten by 95% of the people attending the course, as soon as they walk out.
But this time, there was something pretty major that I took away with me.
The training was all about Differentiation in the Classroom.  In layman’s terms, that means how we can teach the same to all different levels of pupils.  How we can cater for all within one lesson, and have each pupil leaving the classroom, feeling like they learned something.
It’s not an easy thing to do, from the Early Years through to the older children, but it is so important to actually present learning  in a way that a child understands.
The speaker talked about mindsets, and specifically Fixed mindsets Vs. Growth mindsets.

FG1

Now, I found some images on Google that give you a bit of an idea about what these mindsets are.

FG2

In a nutshell, we have to, as educators, allow our pupils to have a Growth mindset.  They need to feel that they can do it. They can learn something. They just have to keep on trying.
And in order for them to be able to develop this mindset, we need to have the same too.
Literally, the next day, I was talking to my own children, and Lil Man, who finds maths pretty tough, was chatting to me.  I have never been much of a mathematician myself, and I was ready to sympathise with him, saying I was never great at maths too, but then I remembered what the lady said the day before. So I altered my own words to say that, yes, I was never the best at maths, but I hadn’t stopped learning, even to this day.  In fact, I am ashamed to say, I don’t know my times tables by heart… thought with my own children learning them, I am getting better every day!
These statements below are a great way of altering your wording, so you can make any possible negative statement into a positive!

FG3

Since the training, I have been very mindful (We had to train on that, mindfulness, too once!) of the things I say, and how I say them.
Yes I hate sports, and I used to say I was never any good at them, but the fact of the matter is, I was pretty good at hockey, and netball. Discus and javelin, I loved. Badminton and tennis, again more physical pursuits that I enjoyed.  I just enjoyed other things more, so I never developed the skills.  Who knows, I may have been another Fatima Whitbread if I’d kept up the throwing!
Lil Princess loathes going to Punjabi school on a Saturday for 4 hours ( I would too!) but my in-laws were adamant that she should.  I was always saying I wasn’t bothered about sending her, as I never learned how to read and write my mother tongue.  I speak it well and understand it better than many Punjabi GCSE holders.  But then I realised that I should be positive, for her sake.  She may not be great at it, but if she carries on, it’s another feather in her bow. And If she really hates it still by July, we can stop it, but she won’t have been a quitter, she will have given it her all for this academic year.
The whole mindset thing, it’s really what I am about, actually. I have always been a glass half full kinda gal, seeing the silver lining, and I think that is really key to having that growth mindset. Positivity.  Knowing that something can happen, and that things can change. It’s just sometimes it’s you that has to embrace change first and try your hardest!
So, the moral of Ritu’s latest ramblings?
Don’t think “I can’t!” think “ I’ll try!”.

Thursday Thought

2 days… Just two more days… You can do it Ritu!

Then a week off from the craziness of school!

I’ll still be planning, of that you can be sure, but hopefully I won’t need to be popping in at all to school.

And though I was hoping for pure relaxation, and no plans, we have dentist appointments, and the possibility of the funerals of my two family members who passed away.

Oh and what I said about everything coming in threes. … We did hear of another death in the family, the day after. It wasn’t anyone as close, relation-wise, but my cousin’s father in law… So hopefully we won’t hear anything else negative now.

I could sure do with a shower of positivity right now… But all I’m getting is real showers, and rain! Thanks Mother Nature!

Have a good day Peeps, may you all have a positive day! I’m off to tackle another day of craziness in the nursery!
